Jennifer Garner is back on Netflix with a wild new comedy
So yes, Jennifer Garner has a new Netflix movie coming, and let’s all stop being “normal” about it at all. The movie is called One Attempt Remaining, and the whole idea is already amazing. And yes, we all know she keeps surprising us with her performances every now and then, but this time it’s special, and it’s because of the story.
Jen is playing one half of an ex-couple who suddenly find out that the crypto they won years ago on a cruise is now worth millions. Isn’t that everybody’s dream? But Jen’s going to live it. And it’s not savings-account money. Actual life-changing money. And of course, because this is a comedy, neither of them remembers the password.
And it gets worse. They only have three days before the account expires, and everything disappears. So now they are forced to spend time together again, retracing that night they barely remember, going back through choices they probably wish stayed buried. Money is the reason they start talking again, but you can already tell it is not going to stay just about money. Because when has it ever?
Jennifer Garner is starring in it and producing it, which tells you more than it should. She doesn’t do random projects anymore. If she is attached, it usually means the story has lots of emotions lying beneath the humour. The movie is directed by Kay Cannon, who knows how to write adults behaving badly without making it exhausting. She is also producing, along with Shawn Levy and Dan Levine from 21 Laps and Nicole King from Linden Productions. The people behind this know how to keep things moving while still letting the moments breathe.
What I love about the plot is that it isn’t just about cracking a password. The only way they can figure it out is by going back through that night step by step. Old places. Old conversations. Things they said when they weren’t trying to be careful. And suddenly, they are facing parts of their relationship they never really dealt with when they broke up. And it slowly turns into something a little more emotional before you know it.
Jennifer Garner is perfect for this kind of role. She is really good at playing women who are overwhelmed but still trying. She reacts fast, she talks fast, and her humour always feels natural instead of forced. Fans who loved her in Yes Day, The Adam Project, or Family Switch already know how comfortable she is in these warm, slightly messed-up stories. This one just adds more pressure and a ticking clock.
The script is written by Joe Boothe, Alexa Alemanni, and Kay Cannon, and it feels built for conversations that overlap and decisions made on impulse. Nothing about this story feels stiff. It feels rushed on purpose because that’s what the characters are dealing with.
There is no release date yet, but this already feels exciting. Jennifer Garner doing comedy again, on Netflix, with a story that mixes regret and second chances with loads of humour sprinkled on top? Yeah. That’s not something fans are going to watch casually.
And it just feels good to say it out loud. She’s back.
