Jenna Ortega returns in new trailer for season two of Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’

Jenna Ortega has returned in a harrowing trailer for the second season of Tim Burton’s Wednesday ahead of its launch on Netflix later this year.

The clip teases at greater roles for the Addams family characters and a new supernatural mystery, centred around bone-chilling, lifelike dolls.

The trailer begins with ‘My Favourite Thing’ from The Sound of Music playing ominously in the background. In the opening scene, Wednesday empties her luggage at airport security and pulls out almost an endless supply of torture devices. Hilariously, it is not the weapons but instead the suncream, hidden in the luggage by her sidekick Hand, that disturbs the security.

After two minutes of deadpan one-liners, Ortega whispers, “I do my best work in the dark,” as the trailer comes to a close. This heralds what appears to be a darker series than the last.

Though Tim Burton will be the overarching director, he will only take the reins for the first, fourth, seventh, and eighth episodes. Paco Cabezas is credited with directing the second and third episodes, and Angela Robinson is credited with directing the fifth and sixth.

When talking about the series back in 2024, Ortega mused: “I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.” Ortega has previously spoken out about qualms with her character, whom she considered unrealistic and underdeveloped.

Though the last series was released in 2022, Wednesday remains Netflix’s most-viewed English-language series of all time.

Netflix has revealed that the new series of Wednesday will launch in two parts. The first four episodes will be released on August 6th, and the final four will be released on September 3rd, exclusively on Netflix.
