Everything you need to know about ‘Dogfight’

At this point, London’s criminal underworld must be absolutely sick of the sight of Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie because for about three freaking decades, these two have been making an absolute mockery of London’s supposedly fearsome criminals.

And just when the poor criminals thought they’d caught a break, Netflix has gone and cancelled the well-deserved vacations of these poor criminals!

Remember Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? That classic crime caper from 1998, where a bunch of guys who believed they were criminal masterminds ended up making complete fools of each other. Well, that was Statham’s film debut, and Guy Ritchie was the guy who gave him his first shot at the big screen.

Anyway, Netflix’s Dogfight is bringing the duo back to London’s criminal underworld for a revenge thriller, with Ritchie writing and directing. Here’s all to know.

What’s Dogfight about?

Revenge, for a start, and a return to the shady part of London, where a handshake can be worth less than the price of a pint. Netflix hasn’t disclosed the main storyline or said who Statham will play, which is infuriating given the title has awakened the thirst for more.

Still, the prospect of Guy Ritchie handling another underworld grudge is appealing and reassuring. His best crime films treat an innocent-looking conversation like the beginning of a disastrous business arrangement, and Statham has spent enough time in his films to know when someone’s about to regret opening their mouth.

Who’s in the cast, and why does this reunion matter?

Statham is the only cast member announced so far, and Ritchie will produce alongside him, Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg, with Black Bear, Toff Guy Films and Punch Palace involved in the production. Nobody else has been named so far, so we believe waiting is our only alternative.

But what a history these two have! Ritchie gave Statham his film debut in 1998, and then Snatch followed in 2000, along with Revolver in 2005, before they reunited for the bleaker Wrath of Man and the spy caper Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. They’ve also made Viva La Madness, which is awaiting release. Seven collaborations, including Dogfight and not a single bad film.

When is Dogfight coming to Netflix?

Cameras are due to roll in the UK in early 2027, but Netflix hasn’t announced a release date, the rest of the cast or a trailer. If you fancy a Guy Ritchie fix in the meantime, The Gentlemen is on Netflix, with the newest season rolled out just a few months ago.
