Jacob Elordi to replace Andrew Garfield for Guillermo del Toro's Netflix movie 'Frankenstein'

Jacob Elordi has secured another major role. The Euphoria star will now replace Andrew Garfield as the Monster in the latest upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley’s seminal novel, Frankenstein, which Guillermo del Toro will direct for Netflix.

After a banner 2023 that saw him win widespread acclaim for his performances as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Felix Catton in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, the actor will be returning to the streaming service that gave him his breakthrough role in The Kissing Booth trilogy under entirely different circumstances.

Garfield was initially announced for the part, but scheduling conflicts caused by the actors’ strike forced him to vacate his role in Frankenstein, with Elordi being drafted in as part of a stacked ensemble cast. Oscar Isaac will play Victor Frankenstein, with Mia Goth and two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz rounding out the core quartet.

Beyond that, del Toro has recently cast All Quiet on the Western Front lead Felix Kammerer alongside Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Sweet Tooth youngster Christian Convery in undisclosed roles.

With three Oscars of his own, making him the first person in history to win trophies for ‘Best Picture,’ ‘Best Director,’ and ‘Best Animated Feature’, del Toro is back on familiar ground crafting a lavish Gothic fantasy laced with horror, hubris, and pathos.

Frankenstein is a dream he’s been harbouring for years. Recently, the filmmaker has admitted that he’s been unable to separate the project from Pinocchio in his own mind. He previously adapted the latter for Netflix and experienced massive success as a result, therefore, it’s fitting the streaming service has afforded him the opportunity to do the same with the former.

Although Frankenstein’s Monster will be an altogether different type of challenge for Elordi, but his recent trajectory indicates he’ll rise comfortably to the challenge.
