Is ‘Wednesday’ season two going to be darker than the first?
Jenna Ortega’s introduction as the deadpan Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series will forever be etched in the pop culture conscience. But as Wednesday season two inches closer, the whispers all over the streaming street suggest it will be far more goth than you think. With the cliffhangers of the first season still fresh on everyone’s minds, fans expect an amplified petri dish of horror this time around. But is Netflix going to answer the woeful prayers?
Netflix may already have! With Wednesday season two, Netflix subscribers would be officially signing up for the Summer of Woe. And according to co-showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, “This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore” (via Tudum by Netflix).
Last time, Wednesday stepped into the corridors of Nevermore Academy, murder and mayhem were only at her braid’s end. But this time, the Netflix series is going to crank up the fear factor and conjure an atmosphere of dread unlike any other. Viewers already got six minutes of woeful appetiser on the heels of the Netflix Tudum Live Event at the end of May. But considering it was just a sneak peek, imagine the nightmare that’s still in the pipeline.
Furthermore, Millar has teased that season two will deviate from what Wednesday expects. Even though she has travelled the extra mile each and every time to ensure she never has to return to a school, her comeback to Nevermore is actually non-reluctant. “But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting,” he added. However, that’s not all the dread you should be counting on.
The Addams family, portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, are about to dial up the horror as Morticia and Gomez. Because, unlike last time, they are stepping inside the Nevermore Academy for more screen time for extended horror sequences. Again, they’re not the only ones. Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley, armed with electrokinesis, has suited up for a fright fest you haven’t seen before.
And from the looks of it, he is taking over the season one reputation of Wednesday Addams, “an outcast among outcasts.” Although the Addams family’s screen time was far more limited in the first instalment, Wednesday season two’s amplified macabre is turning them into series regulars, meaning way more chaos in comparison. Thus, with an Addams family reunion in the cards, count on twice the horror exposure.
Moreover, the confrontations between Wednesday and Morticia are about to become the highlight of season two. And to raise the horror standards this time, Wednesday’s grandmama is coming too! Not to forget, Lady Gaga has spiked the ‘Bloody Mary’ this time with a far more consistent presence than just Ortega’s prom dance. So, with Wednesday season two, the horror will stay with you, even in light. Wednesday season two will be released in two parts on August 6th and September 3rd, respectively.
