Is ‘The Hunting Wives’ returning for season two? Rebecca Cutter weighs in
If it weren’t for Netflix, the year would otherwise be boring. But nine months into 2025, it’s safe to say that the company has lived up to its reputation as a streaming powerhouse.
Whether it’s the Emmy nomination leading Adolescence or the history-making KPop Demon Hunters, wherever you see Netflix, it’s sprinting towards limitless success. And speaking of success, how can we not talk about The Hunting Wives, the Starz adaptation that literally turned up the heat midsummer?
The soapy drama follows Boston expat Sophie, who moves to Texas to start a new chapter. However, the chapter turns for the worse when she unknowingly embroils herself with a circle of socialites where guns, liquor, secrets, and skeletons are as routine as bread and butter for breakfast. While the response was a mixed bag, The Hunting Wives managed to carve a separate fan base.
But does that mean it’s returning with a season two? On the heels of The Hunting Wives becoming the most-watched series in the US last week, series creator Rebecca Cutter sat down for a chat with The Hollywood Reporter. They touched upon many things associated with the erotic thriller, including the consequences of the show landing on Netflix.
Upon being asked whether Cutter received feedback about The Hunting Wives once Netflix bought it, and if there are any she’s getting now that everyone is setting their sights on a second season, she responded that during the acquisition, there were no changes. Subsequently, they didn’t have any conversations back then. But recently she spoke with them.
“I heard early on that the show was having a really good finishing rate, but nothing so concrete. Just nice conversations,” she added. While she played coy with the likelihood of a second season, the tabloid cut to chase, doubling down on the burning question at hand. According to Cutter, “nothing is official” yet. However, she acknowledged that everyone wants a season two, including the stars themselves, Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow.
In multiple interviews before, Akerman and Snow have expressed their desire for a second season. Meanwhile, a source of the tabloid notes that Netflix is currently in talks for The Hunting Wives’ second season, although nothing seems set in stone. In any case, if a follow-up instalment materialises, Cutter knows how to kick things off: with a time jump!
“I like there to be a little bit of a new status quo, but you don’t want to miss too much,” she continued. If there’s a season two, fans are going to get more of Margo and Sophie, no questions asked. Although the ideas hinge on the edge of a potential season two, Cutter would like to capitalise on the reception of Wanda Salazar and Jed’s campaign. Fans can expect a possible reality show arc for Callie and John, and some clouds hovering over Alba, Texas.
