Is ‘Minimum Wage’ returning for a second season?
In a streaming era dominated by twisted thrillers and stylised action, Netflix’s Minimum Wage aimed for the laughs, and we’re grateful.
The workplace comedy expands the chaotic world of the viral American High Shorts series on YouTube and TikTok, bringing quirky characters to an extended run on Netflix screens.
Released on October 26th, Minimum Wage is a mockumentary-style workplace sitcom about a teenage group who juggle school and part-time shifts at the Slice Club, a topsy-turvy local pizzeria. Sandwiched between demanding and power-tripping higher-ups and problematic customers, the gang balances work by doing the most absurd things. But that becomes a source of heart and humour, making the comedy an instant hit.
Since every new Netflix show is hit with the question of whether it’s returning for a second season, Minimum Wage is no exception. And if you look at the rave reviews online, you’ll see how the audience is already counting down the days.
To answer the question, Netflix has yet to renew Minimum Wage for a second season. However, the period of silence doesn’t always mean bad business; just standard protocol.
As is the case with Netflix, it gauges a few essential metrics, such as total viewership data and completion rates, for a set timeline before formally announcing a renewal or cancellation, as applicable. As a result, it usually takes weeks, if not longer, for shows to be renewed or cancelled.
Of course, Netflix shows receive rapid renewals in exceptional cases. But that’s rare, to be fair. So, it’s too early to assume anything about Minimum Wage’s future.
That said, the interesting part about the comedy is that Netflix didn’t bill the show as a limited series. So, it’s less likely to be one-and-done if the audience engagement speaks for itself. In fact, the streaming giant has labelled the show as season one, potentially leaving the door open for future seasons.
Additionally, Netflix originally ordered 28 episodes of Minimum Wage when the streaming giant first announced the series and confirmed each would run roughly 12 minutes. However, only 14 episodes are currently available since the launch, although the runtimes are a bit longer. While it’s possible the remaining episodes were clubbed into the available ones, it also suggests a probability that Netflix has saved them separately for another season.
That alone keeps the hopes high for a second season. However, fans will have to wait for an official confirmation to know for sure whether Minimum Wage returns for more!
