Is ‘Little House on the Prairie’ returning for a second season?

Little House on the Prairie, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s children’s book series, finally arrived on Netflix on July 9th. But did you know that it’s already returning for more?

The book-to-screen adaptation, inspired by Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels, follows the Ingalls family as they settle into the American West in the 1800s, as they leave Wisconsin to relocate to Kansas, confronting harsh weather, diseases, and conflicts over Indigenous land rights.

Despite months of waiting, when Little House on the Prairie debuted on Netflix, viewers jumped at the very first chance to finish the season in one sitting. And what followed right after was the most-asked question by netizens: Is it returning for a second season?

Although Netflix typically takes some time to evaluate viewership numbers and completion rates before renewing a new show, that’s not the case with Little House on the Prairie. The show was already greenlit for a second season before the debut season could premiere in March 2026, meaning the Ingalls family saga is far from over.

In a conversation with Tudum, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, Jinny Howe, said, “We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagination of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on season one has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”

While the early renewal was welcome news back then, as it is now, the sophomore season of the Netflix adaptation is confirmed to feature one of the most notable characters of the Little House world: Nellie Oleson, Laura’s arch-rival.

Willa Dunn will portray Nellie, while Charlotte Sullivan, whose showbiz credits include Law & Order: Organised Crime and FBI, plays her energetic and funny on-screen mother, Margaret Oleson. Also joining the second instalment is Rachelle Lefevre as the dearest school teacher Eva Beadle, who gradually becomes a guiding light in Mary and Laura’s lives.

That said, although the renewal is confirmed, Netflix has yet to reveal the release window of Little House on the Prairie season two. So, check back later for more information as the streamer gears up to go bigger and better.
