Is ‘I Will Find You’ returning for a second season?
If I Will Find You had you changing your suspect every 20 minutes, you’re probably already curious about whether it will be back for more on Netflix.
The Netflix adaptation of Harlan Coben’s 2023 novel turns every parent’s worst nightmare into a reality when a devoted dad, David Burroughs, is wrongfully convicted of murdering his own son, only to find out that his child could be alive after all this time.
After spending the last five years behind bars, trying to make peace with the judgment, when his ex-sister-in-law brings evidence that his little boy could be really alive, David is forced to break prison and launch his own investigation to track down Matthew Burroughs in I Will Find You, all while navigating the ghosts of the past, a cat-and-mouse police pursuit, and a deep-seated conspiracy.
So, for those wondering, Netflix has yet to greenlight the show for a sophomore season. Since the adaptation hit the shelves barely a week ago, it’s still too early to say anything for sure. As is the case with the streaming giant, it usually tallies viewership numbers and completion rates before renewing a show for continuation. However, I Will Find is somewhat unlikely to return as it was originally conceived as a limited series.
Although Netflix has made exceptions with many such limited series by carrying them forward with more than one season, it has yet to announce if I Will Find You is one-and-done.
Additionally, with the central mystery about Matthew Burroughs solved, I Will Find You answers most of the burning questions. It is revealed that Matthew is indeed alive, and the body presumed to be his was actually another child’s, who was an orphan. And by the time you reach the end, the bad guys are either apprehended or in a body bag.
That said, in a conversation with TV Insider, Coben actually addressed questions about whether he has any intentions to return to the story with a second book following the events of season one. “Probably not. Whenever I do [ a show] – I think this is my 13th series with Netflix – it’s always with the intention of never writing these characters again. It’s all out on the table. It’s not fair to ask people to watch eight episodes of a series and wait two years for season two, so everything is kind of answered,” he said.
While that says a lot, the author didn’t rule out the entire possibility. He added, “I never say never. If we somehow came up with a storyline that would be as good as this one for these characters, I would tell it, but I don’t think we’re going to, and I’m not going to push it. I’d rather do a new story.”
