Is ‘Bridgerton’ coming back for season five? Here’s what we know

Now that we know how things end for Benedict and Sophie Bridgerton in Bridgerton season four, it only makes sense to get curious whether the show is returning on Netflix for a fifth lap. And it turns out that the audience is, after all, in luck because the fifth season has already been confirmed.

The news came over a year ago in May 2025 with Netflix renewing Bridgerton for both fifth and sixth seasons to continue our journey in Regency-era London. So, yes, not just one, but two more seasons are on the way.

In a conversation with executive producer and director Tom Verica on Bridgerton: The Official Podcast, Jess Brownell provided an update on the follow-up instalment, saying, “We pretty much finished the writers’ room. We’re nearly done with the scripts.” Additionally, Brownell is reportedly already brainstorming about the fifth season finale of Bridgerton.

Although the storyline for the fifth season remains shrouded in mystery, the scribe did share a few things on what awaits Bridgerton’s next instalment. In the second part of season four, Penelope Bridgerton took a step back from her gossip column, Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, and retired. But then again, in the closing minutes of the series finale, we again hear Lady Whistledown’s voice-over as Penelope’s husband, Colin, is seen giving her a new issue of Lady Whistledown.

Someone has taken over the author’s line for themselves and yes, Lady Whistledown has been revived. So, it’s only natural that Brownell and the rest of the writers are super excited about the twist that awaits viewers, which, in turn, reinvents Lady Whistledown’s story from Julia Queen’s acclaimed novels. For those unaware, Penelope is the only Lady Whistledown in the Bridgerton book series.

“We knew we couldn’t really play with that reveal for too long because people could just google it,” Brownell told on Bridgerton: The Official Podcast. “But now people really don’t know, and we really get to play with the audience’s expectations.”

The fourth season of Bridgerton was pretty happening for our beloved characters with the family matriarch, Violet Bridgerton accepting Lord Marcus Anderson’s proposal only to realise she cannot marry yet. Meanwhile, viewers are introduced to the viscount and viscountess’s beautiful baby boy, Edmund before the wedding bells ring for Benedict and Sophie, the showstoppers of the season.

With Penelope ending her society column and entering the fictional whirlpool, she is also seen raising baby Elliot with Colin, who is also an author.

As for the rest? Well, you can find all about what they have been up to by tuning into the fourth season, currently streaming on Netflix. And about the rest of the details on what’s to come, stay tuned for more updates!
