Is a second season of 'The Gentlemen' coming to Netflix?

Fans of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix show The Gentlemen are eagerly awaiting news about the release date for the next chapter of the series, following the conclusion first eight episodes.

As a spin-off of Ritchie’s 2019 film with the same title, this series explores the depths of the criminal underworld, introducing viewers to a fresh ensemble of characters and adventures. Headlined by actors such as Theo James from The White Lotus and Kaya Scodelario from Skins, among others, the series has successfully captivated global audiences with its intrigue and action.

Discussing the show in a recent interview with LA Times, James explained: “In Guy’s world, you have to straddle, very acutely, humour and comedy, but it can’t tip into the ridiculous because then all the stakes become completely lost,” adding, “He undercuts your sense of expectation as an audience continually, which I quite enjoy. Nothing is totally serious, and I think that’s crucial. It’s not Succession.”

The final episode of the show sets the story up for a brand new segment, leaving many viewers questioning the likelihood of a second season.

Will there be a second season of The Gentlemen?

Although Netflix has not officially announced the renewal of the show, there are signs that point towards it being highly probable. According to Deadline‘s report in March 2024, the series was conceptualised as an ongoing production with plans for multiple seasons, with Ritchie said to have already brainstormed ideas for a forthcoming season.

Marc Helwig, Head of Worldwide Television, Miramax, said: “We have started that process. There are some writers we’ve talked to, certainly lots of discussion with Guy about what he might want to do in a second season, what things to focus on.”

Helwig added that a clearer view on the performance of the first season will indicate the likelihood of a second season, despite there being an “active ongoing discussion already what a second season would be.”

Moreover, the show’s season one ending points towards a second segment of the story, with Eddie rising to become a co-owner of a drug empire valued at billions of pounds.

James told Netflix: “That is the beginning of his journey into the heart of darkness,” adding, “He finally realises that with power comes death, and he begins to enjoy it… Eddie and Susie just signed the deal with the devil and they’re about to embark on a diabolical journey.”
