Two stars of the TV thriller Homeland are to return for the upcoming Netflix limited series The Beast in Me.
The new series, penned by Gabe Rotter, who previously helped write an episode of the recent X-Files revival, tells the story of a celebrated author who steps away from the public eye after the death of her son. Inspiration for her new novel comes to her doorstep, however, when a famous real estate mogul with a mysterious criminal past moves in next door, sending the lead character down a rabbit hole of life-threatening investigation.
With the three-time Emmy-award-winning actor Claire Danes set to take the lead role and Howard Gordon due to be the showrunner, The Beast in Me will be a semi-reunion of the duo who helped make Homeland such a runaway success. Gordon was formerly the creator and producer of Homeland, while Danes starred in the series alongside the likes of Damian Lewis, Rupert Friend and Mandy Patinkin.
Outside of his work on Homeland, Gordon has established himself as a formidable name in the world of TV, producing 194 episodes of 24 from 2001-2010, while, more recently, creating the crime drama Accused for Hulu.
Danes most recently appeared in the Max series Full Circle back in 2023, which told the story of a long line of kidnappings-gone-wrong which connect several people in a wide web of deceit in contemporary New York.
The forthcoming series is one of many exciting projects coming to Netflix in the future, with the streaming service doubling down on a variety of more eccentric small-screen projects. The Beast in Me will join Stephen Belber and V.J. Boyd’s The Madness, another crime drama which tells the story of a media commentator who comes across a murder they should have never seen and finds themselves fighting for survival.
