‘His & Hers’ ending explained: Who is the real killer and why do they kill?
Netflix recently dropped a gripping new mystery thriller, His & Hers, adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel, on January 8th, and social media just cannot stop buzzing about it.
The murder mystery at the centre of His & Hers appears resolved midway through the series finale when protagonist Anna Andrews and Jack Harper unmask the Atlanta TV anchor called Lexy Jones to be Catherine Kelly, an outcast who studied in St Hilary’s at the same time as Anna, but was on the periphery of the high school group she belonged to.
The Netflix thriller nearly convinces viewers that Lexy is the killer seeking vengeance on her high-school tormentors, with Anna next on her target. But a year later, Anna comes to learn that Lexy was never really the murderer.
Then, who was the real killer in His & Hers? What was the reason behind the killings?
Who was the killer?
In the last 16 minutes of the sixth episode of His & Hers, Anna’s mother admits she’s the killer in a letter addressed to her daughter. She confesses to killing each of her former high school friends, including Rachel, whom Alice murdered in the woods, which was not very long after Anna discovered Rachel was sleeping with Jack. She also murdered Helen and Zoe and ended up framing Lexy for it.
According to Alice, these murders and the framing are “justice.” Throughout the mystery thriller, there are hints that something tremendously horrible had happened during Anna’s 16th birthday, which was at a time when Anna, Zoe, Helen, and Rachel were incredibly tight. Back then, Anna dreamed of her future in media and documented almost everything on her camera.
Years after her birthday, Anna loses her baby while in Alice’s care. And while Anna disappears to mourn, Alice was left with the old tapes of Anna to comfort herself. It was then that Alice watched the final tape, which revealed that Anna was sexually assaulted on her birthday. Teenage Helen, Zoe, and Rachel planned the attack and watched it unfold. As for teen Lexy, AKA Catherine Kelly, she fled the site after being assaulted herself, leaving Anna alone in that state.
So, when Alice pieces it all together, it makes sense why she takes the high road for revenge. Although that’s not all the mystery that the show holds, to know more, don’t forget to watch His & Hers on Netflix right now.
