Here’s the true story behind Netflix’s ‘2 Hearts’

Netflix‘s romantic drama 2 Hearts has been pitched as their perfectly heartwarming way to head into summer. And that sense of sunny love with a twist is heightened further by the fact that the tale is based on a true story.

The story comes with the following official synopsis: “In parallel love stories, the lives of college student Chris and wealthy businessman Jorge intersect in a profound twist of fate.”

This enticing premise is based on a tear-jerking true story, so, ready yourself for spoilers. The drama is inspired by the lives of Jorge Bacardi and Christopher Gregory, and the book written by Chris’ father, Eric, titled All My Tomorrows: A Story of Tragedy, Transplant and Hope.

Tragically, Chris Gregory passed away at the age of 19. However, thereafter, his organs were donated to five people including Jorge Bacardi, the heir to the Barcadi alcohol enterprise. Inspired by Chris’ selfless act, Bacardi decided to set up the Gabriel House of Care, a charity that offers supports for people awaiting transplants.

Thanks to Chris’ lifesaving organ donation, Bacardi lived until he was 76, and, in turn, his non-profit organisation helped millions of people also awaiting transplants in a tale of hope and tragedy.

While Netflix have fictionalised this real-life tale, the central act of transcendence still runs throughout. 2 Hearts is currently available to stream.
