As Netflix’s newest drama continues to gain popularity, fans of 3 Body Problem are keen to get more and more vested in that which makes the program up. Not only has the book that the series is based on by Liu Cixin climbed back into the Amazon Bestseller list, but a book referenced in the show, Silent Spring, has also had a resurgence despite its initial release being 60 years ago.
Gripping audiences worldwide, the show’s synopsis reads, “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”
The showrunners are David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are responsible for Game of Thrones alongside Alexander Woo. Despite the controversial final series of Game of Thrones, the pair are an excellent choice for bringing the large-scale premise initially conjured by Cixin to the screen. With many complicated characters and a slow-moving but enticing plot, the show evokes images of the fantasy series Hayday.
The soundtrack contributes to the tension that the show can make. Ramin Djawadi is responsible for the original music. He initially worked on Game of Thrones with Benioff and Weiss and was responsible for the show’s iconic theme song. He has also worked on Pacific Rim and House of the Dragon.
The show also uses songs from other artists to build the world where the series takes place. Whether this is to have us roll our eyes at drunken people in a karaoke bar or create a disturbing atmosphere that backdrops murder, the show’s ability to use music to heighten the viewer experience is unparalleled.
