‘Heartland’: Everything to know about Jessica Chastain’s Nashville thriller
Jessica Chastain has played plenty of women you would think twice about crossing, and Netflix’s Heartland looks set to add another one to the list. This time, she is Misty Jones, a former country star who has walked away from the Nashville machine (country-music business).
Then her niece goes missing and, well, guess where Misty has to go? Yep, straight back to Nashville, where one search starts opening a whole can of worms she probably hoped would stay shut tight.
Shana Feste is directing the film, and in case that name rings a bell, she is the same filmmaker behind Country Strong, returning to country-music territory.
Heartland already has enough going for it to keep us curious, and with Chastain leading the film, Netflix has our attention. Now, about that plot…
What is Heartland about?
Misty Jones has kept her distance from the country-music world for years, but the second her niece Charlie Heart disappears, all of that goes out the window. Back to Nashville she goes, poking around the industry she knows far too well and finding that the people around her may be hiding more than they let on. Way to be welcomed back!
And then, as if finding Charlie was not already a nightmare, Misty’s own past starts crawling back into the picture. Wasn’t that obvious? Ahh, the sound of old wounds reopening, spicy! People she once trusted begin looking rather different, and that’s when the story takes a turn. For now, you need to know that Heartland is just so much more than a missing person’s search.
Who is in the cast?
Chastain is leading as Misty, with real-life singer-songwriter Carter Faith playing Charlie. Garrett Hedlund stars as Roy Combs, while Ross Lynch plays Jace. Country singer Jennifer Nettles appears as Winnie Jo Lean, and John Hawkes rounds things out as Clark, so now we know that there is some genuine country pedigree in the room.

Not yet, sadly. Netflix has released the first-look pictures and told us enough to get curious, while keeping the actual footage to itself. Classic Netflix!
