‘Haunted Hotel’: Netflix just opened the doors to its weirdest hotel yet

Forget five-star resorts or luxury lobbies, as Netflix has got a new hotel, which comes with a check-in desk staffed by actual ghosts. If you are confused, let us clarify that we are talking about its new establishment, Haunted Hotel.

It is an adult animated comedy that takes the idea of a family-run business and smushes it together with the afterlife. The result? Something halfway between a workplace sitcom and a supernatural farce. The best part is, it is streaming now for anyone brave enough to step inside.

At the heart of the series is a single mother trying to keep the Undervale Hotel from falling apart while raising her two kids. But there is a twist: Her estranged brother is back in the picture…but only because he is dead. However, that doesn’t stop him from giving advice and insisting his fellow spirits have “pretty good ideas” on how to manage the place. It is family drama, hospitality mayhem, and ghostly meddling all in one.

If the brief exposition above hasn’t convinced you to watch this yet, there is another interesting fact that definitely will. The show comes from Matt Roller, whose comedy résumé reads like a fan-favourite marathon, boasting animated and real-time wacky comedies like Rick and Morty, Community, Archer, and The Goldbergs.

Netflix snapped up Haunted Hotel after a competitive auction and gave it a straight-to-series order, and Roller isn’t alone in this endeavour, joined by more Rick and Morty alumni, such as creators Dan Harmon and Steve Levy, and Erica Hayes, as supervising director, plus Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Chris McKenna.

The voice cast is equally stacked. You’ve got Will Forte headlining alongside Eliza Coupe, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, and Jimmi Simpson, all lending their comedic chops to the Haunted Hotel. With that much talent crammed into one haunted property, it’s no wonder Netflix is selling this as one of its big fall comedy launches.

What makes Haunted Hotel stand out, though, is that it refuses to play the obvious horror card. This isn’t a series about monsters jumping out of closets or blood dripping down the walls. The ghosts here are funny and, most importantly, opinionated. They are also sometimes weirdly helpful. They’re less interested in terrifying guests and more into micromanaging the living.

Netflix’s adult animation slate has been growing steadily, but this show lands at exactly the right moment. With Halloween season creeping up, Haunted Hotel offers the spooky vibe without the nightmares. You won’t be hiding under your covers after watching this. Instead, you’ll be laughing at a ghost pitching business strategies or a mom rolling her eyes as her dead brother tries to play manager.

So, if you are looking for something different to watch this fall, book a stay at the Undervale. Just don’t expect a restful night, not with ghosts running room service.
