‘Haunted Hotel’ is renewed for a second season already

Most Netflix shows wait months for a verdict for renewal. And then we have Haunted Hotel, which waited seven days. Netflix saw the ghosts check in, watched viewers follow them and then slid the renewal papers across the desk before the front door even shut.

The ink on season one’s reviews was still drying, and yet season two is already a done deal. That’s how you know the spirits at the Undervale have pull.

But we are nobody to comment, as the numbers speak louder than words. In its first three days, the animated series racked up 1.8 million views worldwide, which translates to 7.5 million hours of people watching ghosts argue about hotel management. That was enough to slide into Netflix’s global Top 10 list for English-language shows. Not bad for a series that’s essentially about a single mom, her kids, and an estranged brother who happens to be, well, dead.

For those who haven’t checked in yet, the show follows Eliza Coupe’s character, a mother juggling childcare with running the Undervale Hotel, which is very much haunted. Her estranged brother, voiced by Will Forte, is now one of the permanent residents there. A ghost who thinks the other spirits have great ideas about how to run the place.

That dynamic alone could keep a series going for seasons, because honestly, what’s family drama without someone haunting you literally and emotionally? The voice cast also includes Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, and Jimmi Simpson, who bring extra chaos to the spectral lobby.

Behind the scenes, you have a packed roster. Matt Roller, a Rick and Morty alum with writing credits on Community, Archer, and Son of Zorn, created the show and runs it with a very specific blend of absurd and heartfelt. He executive produces alongside Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, and Steve Levy, plus the animation powerhouse Titmouse (Big Mouth, Star Trek: Lower Decks).

This show proved that the viewers don’t always want groundbreaking. Sometimes they just want something funny, weird, and easy to watch while scrolling on their phones, and Haunted Hotel seems to have nailed that lane.

The speed of the renewal is notable, though. Netflix won the show in what they described as a “highly competitive auction”, and clearly, they want to keep it in the family. Roller himself joked that he was excited to tell stories “of the dead, the evil, and the struggling hospitality workers at the Undervale Hotel.” Meanwhile, Netflix’s Billy Wee called the series “wildly inventive”, which basically translates to “it’s quirky, it’s working, and please don’t question it.”

So, season two is coming soon with no delays, no hesitation, just a confident stamp of approval. Think of it as the Undervale Hotel putting out a “Vacancy” sign for another round of guests. If the first season was about checking in, the second promises to make sure we never quite check out. Now that’s the kind of haunting we can live with.
