'Halo' veteran joins Netflix for new AAA game

It has been announced that Joseph Staten, the former head of Halo Infinite, who has just announced his departure from Microsoft, will be the creative director of a new AAA game for Netflix. Staten revealed the news on Monday.

“In my work life, there’s nothing I love more than collaborating with others to build worlds filled with iconic characters, deep mysteries, and endless adventures,” he wrote in a brief Twitter thread on Monday. He didn’t share further details about the upcoming game; however, he did tease fans by saying it is a “brand-new AAA multiplatform game and original IP.”

The news comes after Staten confirmed his departure from Microsoft 11 days ago. A veteran of the famed studio, Bungie, he worked on the first three Halo games for Microsoft and became a part of the team at 343 Industries for Halo Infinite after the release was pushed back to 2021 from the previous year. Staten moved to the publishing division of Xbox not long before he departed Microsoft.

Per The Verge, Netflix has declined to comment on Staten joining them for the new game. The company recently announced that they are investing heavily in gaming and opened a games studio in Helsinki, Finland, last year.
