Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ is coming to London with a behind-the-scenes exhibition

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is coming alive in more ways than one. By that, we mean not just on Netflix screens, but also with some exclusives behind-the-scenes exhibition in London.

Based on the Mexican auteur’s forthcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley’s seminal 1818 novel, Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal is arriving at the Old Selfridges Hotel from October 17th to November 9th.

According to a press release, Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal “will celebrate del Toro’s visionary storytelling and the exceptional craftsmanship of the team.” The exhibition will offer never-before-seen glimpses into his elaborate filmmaking procedure, exhibiting the magnificent props, stunning artworks, immaculate costumes, and the Tiffany & Co. jewellery featured within the film.

The exhibition will also showcase “rare books curated by the firm Peter Harrington to honour Mary Shelley’s legacy.” Netflix is presenting Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal in association with LFF for Free, the BFI London Film Festival’s initiative of free events. As a result, the one-of-a-kind spectacle will be free of cost for everyone who wants to visit and witness the magic behind the scenes first-hand.

Frankenstein is scheduled to screen at the BFI London Film Festival on October 13th before its availability in select theatres in the UK and Ireland on October 17th. Del Toro’s reimagination already had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 30th, earning a prestigious 13-minute ovation. Frankenstein will be released on Netflix globally on November 7th.

In a statement, the Oscar-winning director said, “This film concludes a journey for me that started at age 7, when I saw James Whale’s Frankenstein films for the first time. Gothic horror became my church and Boris Karloff my Messiah.” While bringing the retelling to a global audience is a dream come true for him, the opportunity to offer viewers a closer look at the intricate craftsmanship that has gone into making it overwhelms him.

Those who want to be part of this exhibition can get free tickets, which will go live on Selfridges’ website from 8am BST on Friday, September 12th. So, set that reminder and don’t miss the opportunity!
