Gia Coppola’s ‘Perfect’ eyes Millie Bobby Brown to star as gymnast Kerri Strug
Amidst the wait for Stranger Things season five, Millie Bobby Brown is currently busy making headlines for another high-profile Netflix project, Gia Coppola’s Perfect. According to an exclusive Deadline report, the Netflix actor is in negotiations to star as American sports icon and Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug in the upcoming film.
The Electric State actor is presently in the final round of discussion for Coppola’s directorial feature, where Brown is also set to join as a producer. With a script from Ronnie Sandahl, Perfect is inspired by the real-life US women’s gymnastics team’s milestone achievement at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.
For those unaware, Coppola is the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola and niece of Sofia Coppola, who has previously shown her directorial skills in features including Palo Alto (2013), Mainstream (2020), and The Last Showgirl (2024).
The streaming giant has reportedly set its sights on 2026 to kick off production for Perfect. While Coppola helms the Netflix project as director, Nik Bower for Riverstone Pictures and Thomas Benski for Magna Studios serve as producers, with 30West executive producing.
Widely dubbed as the Magnificent Seven, the American women’s gymnastics team clutched their first-ever gold at the 1996 Olympics. Despite touching down with an injured ankle, Kerri Strug won the gold for the vault, while the picture of coach Béla Károlyi carrying her to the podium became a cornerstone moment of the Summer Games. The picture didn’t just record a defining moment from the games; it witnessed history in the making.
Besides Strug, the Magnificent Seven comprised Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Amy Chow, Jaycie Phelps, and captain Amanda Borden. If Brown definitely lands the role for Coppola’s Perfect, this would add another Netflix project to her resume following her stint on Netflix in the Enola Holmes franchise, Damsel, The Electric State, and, of course, Stranger Things, which offered her the breakout role of Eleven.
Stranger Things is slated to conclude with a fifth and final season later this year. The three-part release will have the first volume drop on November 26th with four episodes, followed by the second with three episodes on December 25th. The series finale will be released on December 31st, just in time for the New Year.
While hearts are sure to break with Brown and the Hawkins gang finally bidding adieu to the Netflix show that had become a staple in every household, with Perfect, thankfully, fans now have another reason to look forward to.
