‘Gaslit by My Husband’: The gritty thriller climbing the Netflix charts

Every once in a while, Netflix brings such gripping stories to light that viewers simply cannot resist hitting the play button, and that also seems to be the case behind the storming of Gaslit by My Husband: The Metzer Morgan Story on the weekly charts.

Originally a Lifetime movie released in 2024, the dark thriller was added to Netflix earlier in March 2026, triggering a massive flux in viewership.

In the week dated March 16th to March 22nd, Gaslit by My Husband: The Metzer Morgan Story amassed 5.2million views, ranking fifth on the most popular movies chart globally. Meanwhile, in the US, it is currently the number one movie, which alone underscores the intrigue surrounding it.

While Gaslit by My Husband’s recent addition to Netflix has clearly boosted its visibility on the platform, influencing its rise on the Netflix global and regional charts, what also may have contributed to the leap is the fact that the movie is based on real events.

The movie is based on the story of Metzer Morgan, who, while she was 14, met Rodney, 17. Their love story began when they were teens, and they eventually tied the knot in 2009 when Morgan turned 21. However, due to a streak of family tragedies, including the death of his brother to leukaemia and the loss of their first child to a heart issue, Rodney had a major change of character.

After Morgan gave birth to twins in 2012, Rodney lost his job and turned extremely abusive. It was only after several years of enduring victim-blaming that she finally filed for divorce in 2020. Not long after their divorce was finalised, on New Year’s Eve, a masked perpetrator broke in, beat, and sexually assaulted Morgan, later fleeing away with cash and jewellery.

Forty minutes later, Rodney arrived to set her free, and upon questioning, he told the police that the reason behind his sudden arrival is because a stranger had come over calling out for her. It didn’t take long for police to figure out that the story was orchestrated to make Rodney look like a hero, resulting in a 70-year sentence with the first 25 to be served in prison and the remaining 45 on probation.

Directed by Lee Gabiana, Gaslit by My Husband: The Metzer Morgan Story stars Jana Kramer as Morgan and Austin Nicholas as Rodney, her ex-husband.

So, considering this answers the curiosity building behind its recent upsurge on the charts, those yet to catch up with the thriller can do so, as Gaslit by My Husband: The Metzer Morgan Story is currently streaming on Netflix.
