From ‘Wednesday’ to ‘Shrek’, Netflix’s Top 10 is stranger than ever

Wednesday Addams is back where she belongs: right at the very top. The second half of Wednesday season two landed with a bang, and indeed, fans wasted no time in making it number one.

But this time, we’re not just saying that based on Netflix ranking, as we have the actual number. With 28.2million views, Nevermore’s favourite detective has reminded us why she is Netflix royalty. People were a bit sceptical when Netflix decided to drop season two in two volumes.

Little did they know that the final four episodes had everything to make it hit. We saw the shocking return of Principal Weems, a new transformation from Slurp, and even Lady Gaga dropping in with a cameo and a brand-new song. Add in a viral dance routine from Mother Monster herself, and it is no wonder social media has been in overdrive.

But to call this week’s Netflix charts predictable would be a lie. If anything, they are the strangest mix we have seen in months. After Wednesday, we have the English film list, and the film topping it gained 26.3 million views in just two weeks of its release. We are talking about Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, which at first might sound like another internet scam story, but the Skye Borgman film has a crazy cyberstalker who, when revealed, proved to be a bigger shock than the numbers.

After these, we have the widely loved teen drama My Life with the Walter Boys, which continues to split fans into Team Alex and Team Cole. But what’s bigger than the decision of choosing between these two boys is the numbers that the show pulled. Season two of Walter Boys pulled in 10.9 million views, and season one sneaked back into the Top 10 too (pulling in about 3.5 million views).

Meanwhile, Hostage, the sharp British political thriller, which is receiving love from everywhere, kept the tension high in the number three spot as it brought in 5.5 million views for Netflix.

It was followed by the scam drama Love Con Revenge, which joined the charts with 3 million views in the first week of its release. It feels like Netflix is offering viewers romance, politics, and revenge all at once, and people are saying yes to all of it.

The film list is just as wild. After Unknown Number, we have the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters at number two with 25.4 million views. With Halloween around the corner, it is already shaping up to be a costume favourite, with fans dressing up as Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Mystery fans are also holding tight to The Thursday Murder Club, which clocked 18.7 million views as it landed at number three.

And then came the biggest curveball: Shrek. The original film with 3.6 million views landed at number five, joined by Shrek the Third with 3.3 million views and Shrek 2 with 2.8 million views further down the chart. Somehow, the lovable ogre has resurfaced as a streaming hit two decades after his debut.

Put it all together, and this week’s Top 10 feels like a true Netflix cocktail. Stranger than ever? Absolutely. But that is exactly what makes it so watchable.
