‘FROM’: Television’s biggest horror mystery is now streaming on Netflix

Now that Halloween is just a couple of weeks away, everybody is fancying a weekend with a watch so scary it gives you chills two weeks after. And if you’re in the mood for the same, then Netflix welcomes you to FROM, the horror mystery that has turned a sleepy town into television’s worst holiday destination. And lucky for us viewers, the first three seasons of the show have been released on Netflix in the US on October 19th, just in time for Halloween.

Created by John Griffin, the horror series follows the Matthews family, who are on a road trip when a fallen tree forces them to take a detour through a town that looks harmless at first. But of course, how can things ever go smoothly in something that looks that decent? The catch: every road leads them back to the same place. No exits, no directions, no helpful man at a gas station. Just a town full of strangers who have been stuck there for years.

And that’s not even the worst part. Once the sun goes down, creatures with human faces and smiles worthy of a toothpaste advertisement emerge from the woods, asking to be let inside. Open the door, and, well, good luck with that! Strange talismans offer protection indoors, while Sheriff Boyd Stevens tries to keep everyone alive. Now that’s what we’d like to call a one-man army.

But don’t mistake FROM for another monster show where people just scream or run half the time. The residents here must share food and follow rules and put up with one another while fear sends tempers through the roof. Some live in the town’s houses, while others stay at Colony House.

The behind-the-scenes trivia of FROM is just as fascinating. The creepy town was built in Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia, on old roads that once served a community of military radar station workers. The original houses had been demolished, so the production team built a new town on the site. This abandoned settlement turned into a nightmare on television – one hell of a makeover!

And does Sheriff Boyd look familiar? Perrineau played Michael Dawson in Lost, and executive producers Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner worked on that series as well. So, fans of the previous mysteries might feel at home.

What makes FROM a nerve-wracking horror experience is its atmosphere. Empty streets, creepy houses, and creepy humans – just to make it worse, makers have thrown in a forest that seems. Even the opening theme, the Pixies’ version of ‘Que Sera, Sera’, sounds like a warning.

Four seasons have aired, and a fifth and final season is planned for 2027. While Netflix has the first three seasons in the US, the fourth season is yet to come. But given how Netflix has been bringing early Christmas presents to us back-to-back, we might see the fourth season just in time. So while the people in FROM are desperate to escape, the only struggle you might have is to stop watching.
