‘Frankenstein’ wins big at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards
With the award season in full swing, Netflix is bagging milestones one ceremony at a time. And at the recently held 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein just made it big.
In addition to HUNTR/X of KPop Demon Hunters leaving the audience enamoured with their ‘Golden’ performance, which recently won Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami, and songwriter EJAE a Grammy and an Oscar nod, the stage belonged to the Creature and the Creator.
Netflix led the BAFTA nominations with 14 nods across various categories. While del Toro’s reimagination of Mary Shelley’s seminal novel was at the forefront with eight nominations, it turns out that it also took three BAFTAs home.
Frankenstein earned nominations in ‘Cinematography,’ ‘Costume Design,’ ‘Make-up & Hair,’ ‘Original Score,’ ‘Production Design,’ ‘Special Visual Effects,’ and ‘Sound.’ Meanwhile, Elordi garnered a nod for ‘Supporting Actor.’ However, the film was victorious in three categories, including ‘Production Design,’ ‘Costume Design,’ and ‘Make Up & Hair,’ making up for everything that brought Frankenstein to life.
Besides del Toro’s genius, Tim Mielant’s Steve starring Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy, Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams starring Joel Edgerton, also garnered nominations at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards. In the documentary category, Geeta Gandbhir’s The Perfect Neighbour, Petra Costa’s Apocalypse in the Tropics, and Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus’s Cover-Up earned nods as well, alongside Kathryn Bigelow’s A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE, which was nominated for ‘Editing.’
Although the rest couldn’t leave a mark, Frankenstein refuses to back down this award season. And the next in line? It’s the upcoming Academy Awards, where the movie is leading the pack with nine whopping nominations. Considering that the ceremony is barely three weeks away, it makes sense that the anticipation is literally at an all-time high.
But coming back to the latest BAFTA Film Awards, the girls of HUNTR/X alongside the Frankenstein winners eventually joined friends and guests at the Netflix after-party, which was held at The Twenty Two in London.
Several Netflix icons toasted to a prolific year of film, including Kerry Washington from Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Aimee Lou Wood from Sex Education, Joe Locke and Kit Connor from Heartstopper, Jay Lycurgo from Steve, and Louis Patridge from Enola Holmes.
For those who couldn’t get their award ceremony fix at the designated hour, all we can hope is that these Netflix highlights help in keeping up the hopes for what’s to come in the future. In case you haven’t watched Frankenstein already, now is the time!
