‘Frankenstein’ leads the BAFTA 2026 nominations for Netflix, here’s the full list

The award season is officially upon us. Hot on the heels of the recently announced Academy Award nominations, BAFTA stepped up to confirm its 2026 nods on January 27th. And by the looks of it, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is clearly in the lead for Netflix movies this year.

Following its chart-topping debut on Netflix and rave reviews, del Toro’s magnificent retelling of Mary Shelley’s seminal novel has earned a staggering eight nominations, including one for actor Jacob Elordi, who portrayed Creature in Frankenstein.

In case you didn’t know, Frankenstein also earned nine Oscar nominations just last week. So, it’s safe to say that the award season belongs to del Toro’s genius.

Elordi earned the nod for Frankenstein in ‘Supporting Actor,’ and the film itself garnered nominations in categories, including ‘Cinematography,’ ‘Costume Design,’ ‘Make Up & Hair,’ ‘Original Score,’ ‘Production Design,’ ‘Special Visual Effects,’ and ‘Sound.’

Next up, there’s Tim Mielant’s Steve starring Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy, which has earned a nomination in ‘Outstanding British Film.’ In addition to Frankenstein, the other Netflix movie to have been recognised in ‘Cinematography’ is Clint Bentley’s moving film, Train Dreams, starring Joel Edgerton.

Netflix has roped in a total of 14 nominations across various categories. Coming to the ‘Documentary’ category, the BAFTA 2026 nominations include Geeta Gandbhir’s spine-chilling true-crime documentary, The Perfect Neighbour, Petra Costa’s Apocalypse in the Tropics, and Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus’s critically acclaimed docufilm, Cover-Up.

Meanwhile, A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE, the pulse-pounding political thriller by Kathryn Bigelow, has been nominated in the ‘Editing’ category. As is evident, only Frankenstein from the BAFTA 2026 nomination of Netflix movies has managed to garner more than one nomination, which means you need to keep an eye out for the day when the winners will be announced.

For those unaware, the 79th British Academy Film Awards is set to be held on February 22nd, 2026, at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre. The broadcast will be streamed live on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. The remaining international broadcasters are yet to be announced.

While we know there’s no place you’d rather be, for a comprehensive understanding, here is the full list of BAFTA nominations for Netflix movies.
