Every now and then, Netflix launches us into chaos with a head-turning psychological thriller, leaving us yearning for more. The Beast in Me was no exception.
So, we thought, why not help you with the hunt? While disruptive neighbours are one thing, Netflix has always warned us against neighbours with a reputation.
But like Aggie, the protagonist of The Beast in Me, we don’t listen. Thankfully, denial is not always a bad thing, especially in cases of Netflix recommendations, since they always tend to prove us wrong.
For those searching for crime dramas close to home to fulfil the cravings left by The Beast in Me, here are five shows to watch on Netflix right now.
Five shows to watch on Netflix if you loved The Beast in Me
The Woods (Harlan Coben, 2020)
The Woods is not about a neighbour whose present-day hijinks force you to confront your past, regardless of how devastating. But it does have an inevitable thread that makes it more a fit in The Beast in Me catalogue: the play of the past and present. Based on Harlan Coben’s 2007 novel, the Polish mystery thriller on Netflix presents two different time periods.
In the present day, a terrible murder takes place, and the body is found with newspaper clippings about Warsaw prosecutor Pawel Kopinski, who is eventually called to identify the deceased. The murder case, however, unexpectedly dials back to a summer camp where he was the chaperone in the past. The memories were already scarring for Pawel, since two people were murdered and his sister disappeared. But this leaves him no option but to address the past that has caught up with him.
The Watcher (Ryan Murphy, 2022-Present)
The paranoia is always paramount and palpable in The Beast in Me, and if you want your watchlist to emanate something similar, Ryan Murphy’s The Watcher is currently streaming on Netflix. The limited series is reportedly based on a true story published in the 2018 New York Magazine Article, The Haunting of a Dream House, by Reeves Wiedeman.
The Watcher is an unsettling account of a couple who move into their dream home, only for their dreams to get upended by real-life nightmares. Soon after their relocation, the pair begins to receive anonymous letters, welcoming at first, but gradually threatening, that they are under the surveillance of a stalker who calls themselves “The Watcher.”
Untamed (Mark L Smith & Elle Smith, 2025-Present)
If you’re looking for an enticing thriller with a rhythm that leaves you on the edge of your seat in every episode, go for Untamed. Once you do, it will no longer matter whether the threat comes from next door or your office. Set in Yosemite National Park, the small-town murder mystery tells the story of National Park Service agent Kyle Turner, whose life has spiralled out of control since his son’s death.
But just when he decides to give up on life for good, an unlikely murder case forces him to put his attention back to his line of duty, which, in turn, readies him for secrets and confrontations he never dreamed of having in his life.
You (Sera Gamble, Michael Foley, and Justin W Lo, 2019- 2025)
No psychological thriller marathon is ever complete without You. But just to be clear, Joe is not only dangerous as a neighbour. He’s the same in every identity, who develops an alarming obsession with a new person in each and every season, leaving him always two steps away from crime and body bags.
Although unlike Joe, Aggie’s fascination and obsession with Nile backfire, Joe’s life is only turned upside down when someone of his match enters the scene.
Stay Close (Daniel O’Hara, 2021)
You know that a thriller has hit the mark when you remain glued to the screen despite the impending doom. And both The Beast in Me and Stay Close tick off that aspect. Based on Harlan Coben’s 2012 novel, the Netflix thriller tells the story of three unconnected individuals whose past catches up with them when a long-buried secret unravels and upends their lives.
Not only does a present-day happening force them to confront the ghosts of their past but the event also unveils the series of dark events that have bind them together in this crisis.
