Five Netflix shows recommended by the KPop Demon Hunters army
When Life Gives You Tangerines (Kim Won-seok, 2025)
Arden Cho, who voices the lead character and vocalist of HUNTR/X, Rumi, loves When Life Gives You Tangerines on Netflix, and we totally get it why. The romance slice-of-life series set in Jeju Island tells the story of Ae-sun, a poor but rebellious girl who dreams of becoming a poet, and Gwan-sik, a young man who has quietly devoted his life to her.
When Life Gives You Tangerines unfolds over several decades, capturing their journey from childhood in the 1950s through adulthood as they confront family disapproval and unforeseen setbacks. Although Ae-sun is determined to rise above her condition, poverty isn’t the only thing that holds her back. With societal constraints and personal tragedies also playing a large role, the series highlights the enduring devotion with which Ae-sun and Gwan-sik keep dreaming big.
The Haunting of Hill House (Mike Flanagan, 2018)
REI AMI, the Korean-American singer and rapper who is the singing voice of Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters, prefers her Netflix preferences a little thrilling, and her choice, The Haunting of Hill House, doesn’t disappoint. Created and directed by the king of horror, Mike Flanagan, the Netflix limited series is the first entry of his popular The Haunting anthology series, loosely based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel.
The Haunting of Hill House alternates between two timelines: 1992, when the Crain family moves into Hill House to renovate it, and the present-day aftermath of the paranormal trauma that has left scars beyond repair. Hugh and Olivia Crain had moved into the Hill House with their five children, unaware that it would change their lives forever. And now 26 years later, the siblings and their father are forced to reunite to confront the ghosts of their past, hoping this will turn things around for them.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Yoo In-shik, 2022)
Moving on to the next pick, it’s from writer and co-director of KPop Demon Hunters, Chris Appelhans, who sided with Extraordinary Attorney Woo, a twisted, one-of-a-kind legal drama, currently streaming on Netflix. The series follows Woo Young-woo, a brilliant rookie attorney on the autism spectrum with a high IQ and photographic memory. Despite graduating at the top of her class at Seoul National University, she struggles to land a job due to widespread prejudice.
Still determined to prove her worth, Young-woo secures a job at an elite law firm, quickly facing scepticism from peers. But Extraordinary Attorney Woo focuses on how she overcomes workplace stigma and challenges, solving cases with unique perspectives and approaches that set her apart. The series doesn’t only capture her corporate journey but also her personal growth as she forms allies, with sparks flying not too far.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (Jang Tae-yoo, 2025)
As for those curious about what’s on director Maggie Kang’s mind, it’s Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, of course. Laced with elements of time travel and historical fiction, the South Korean fantasy-romantic series revolves around a present-day Michelin chef, Yeon Ji-yeong, who, after winning a grand prize in Paris, accidentally travels back to the Joseon era during a solar eclipse.
Although she’s initially mistaken for a spy, with her culinary skills and fusion dishes, she wins over King Lee Heon, becoming the Chief Royal Cook in the court. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty follows Ji-yeong as she navigates a life she hadn’t known, marked by deadly political power play and instincts of survival, grappling with the nuances of time while becoming a vehicle of change herself.
Crash Landing on You (Lee Jung-hyo, 2019-2020)
The last stop is Crash Landing on You on Netflix, picked by Audrey Nuna, who is behind the singing voice of Mira in Netflix’s Oscar-winning animated film, KPop Demon Hunters. While she has just begun viewing the rom-com series, in case you haven’t, here’s why you should. The South Korean romantic drama follows Yoon Se-ri, a chaebol heiress, who accidentally paraglides into North Korea during a storm.
As she crashes into a tree in the DMZ, she comes across Captain Ri from the North Korean Army, who, rather than turning her in, goes above and beyond to hide her in his village and protect her. Despite the political danger and the interference of a corrupt officer, Crash Landing on You follows the pair as they embroil themselves in a forbidden romance while attempting to return her home.
