Five Netflix releases we cannot wait for any longer

Netflix loves a good amount of wait before a big reveal. But can we say the same for viewers around the world? Every streaming season, Netflix churns out a title or more that leaves everyone craving for a follow-up season. But even with renewals in the pipeline, the streamer takes its own sweet time to give fans what they want. Some shows have gaps so big that fans cannot help but lament.

And others have tenterhooks so gripping that viewers cannot ignore a missed opportunity, and the lost momentum. While Netflix often takes the time to nurture shows with long-term potential, this delay can inadvertently hinder its ability to keep viewers engaged, making it more difficult for them to pick up where they left off and still stay invested.

There’s no denying Netflix’s foresight in the streaming era. But there’s also the inevitability of short attention spans of a fast-forward world. When put together, they end up with fan frustrations, heartbreaks, and at times, a full-fledged digital rebellion.

Then again, good things take time. And some Netflix releases are just worth the wait. Think Squid Game and You. While 2025 has given several pop culture highlights, here are the top five Netflix releases we simply cannot wait for.

Five Netflix releases we cannot wait for any longer

Stranger Things (The Duffer Brothers, 2016-Present)

It’s been nine long years since the Christmas lights in Hawkins twinkled with an otherworldly glow, signalling the start of a supernatural saga that would captivate audiences worldwide. Instead of sending invites for a jolly holiday season, Stranger Things brought a mix of sci-fi, horror, and adventure that would become an instant cultural phenomenon. It began with a group of bike-riding teens, who are no longer teenagers.

In fact, it’s three years and counting since the last season was released in two parts. Although the wait is almost over with the fifth and final season releasing in three parts from November to December, will the lost time be enough to compensate for the ageing characters, the need for a recap, and the grit required to retain the lost momentum?

The Witcher (Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, 2019-Present)

While the overt concerns with Stranger Things are primarily the ageing characters and a three-year gap that can make you forget what it was all about, the fan frustration surrounding The Witcher’s fourth season is much more layered. This upcoming season is about to take a big gamble with the new Geralt of Rivia, Liam Hemsworth, following Henry Cavill’s heartbreaking departure from the Netflix series.

That already puts a lot of pressure on Netflix to do the show its deserved showbiz justice. But even with the lamentations, the hype is clearly through the roof about season four, whether it stems from curiosity, a sense of challenge, or the love of the lore. However, the worst part? We still don’t know when that’s due.

Wednesday (Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, 2022-Present)

It is not easy to tell a character-driven story when it is an icon in the world of popular culture. But Wednesday did it, leaving fans on the edge of their seats with its debut season. Although the sophomore season is now closer than ever with part one releasing on August 6th, followed by a second part on September 3rd, the wait is honestly enough to tire out viewers.

Especially those invested in the character’s arc and where Netflix takes her, this could lead to exhaustion and aversion. But like the fans, we hope that it doesn’t, because clearly, Wednesday is one of those Netflix shows that has set a standard of its own.

The Gentlemen (Guy Ritchie, 2024-Present)

Not every Netflix series conjures the nightmares of a long wait. But they are so brilliant, even the little wait feels endless. Such is the situation with The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie’s spin-off of the 2019 film. Following its release in March 2024, Netflix renewed it for a second season in August. And currently, the crew is out and about filming the follow-up instalment in the UK and Italy.

There’s no word on the release date as of now. However, the eight-episode season will wrap production late October.

3 Body Problem (David Benioff, DB Weiss, and Alexander Woo, 2024-Present)

Another sci-fi show that has kept viewers glued to the screen for updates is 3 Body Problem. The show was an instant streaming hit that sparked conversations for a follow-up. The Netflix series follows a group of scientists in present-day London investigating a row of enigmatic suicides while grappling with a looming alien threat.

Although it’s just been a year, and 3 Body Problem season two is right on track, the questions the first season left are enough to back up the anticipation. It’s currently in production in Hungary, which will stretch to 2026, with a season three production scheduled just after.
