Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week: October 2025

The Netflix wheel is spinning at an all-time high this October, with viewers already reeling from the streaming aftertaste the arrival arc left last week.

The platform kicked off the month with a streaming slate so gripping that it had the audience urging for an extended weekend. But if you think the streaming giant is loosening its grip this week, you’re wildly mistaken.

Although the arrival arc may not be as intense and packed to the brim, there are plenty of projects that will draw subscribers in again and again. In fact, the selection might feel like a challenge in itself.

So, to ease the daze surrounding what to watch this time around, here are five Netflix releases you just cannot miss out on.

Five Netflix releases to catch this week

Néro the Assassin (Allan Mauduit, 2025)

One of the most highly anticipated original productions hitting Netflix shelves this week, on October 8th, comes from its French lineup of 2025, Néro the Assassin. Described as a historical adventure drama set in 16th-century France, the project opens amidst a state of heightened social tension with a historic dry spell underway.

Néro The Assassin is an intense character-driven story that revolves around Pio Marmaï as Néro, a sceptical assassin, who, upon being betrayed by his former master, becomes hell bent on retrieving his daughter Perla, who had been raised as an orphan. But as he sets his sights on the goal, he teeters between saving his dear ones and saving the world. The Netflix trailer shows bits and pieces of what to expect from the eight-episode series as Néro and Perla join forces on their journey to Ségur, as the latter becomes a brutal assassin, just like her father.

The Resurrected (Chao-jen Hsu and Leste Chen, 2025)

The next release you need to keep an eye out for is from the Chinese slate of Netflix original production, The Resurrected. Set in the fictional town of Benkha, the Taiwanese thriller series takes place in the aftermath of a spine-chilling kidnapping case, focusing on two grieving mothers boiling with vengeance deep in their hearts.

The Resurrected follows the two women as they revive the fraudster to initiate a chain of violence in an attempt to avenge their daughters. The first two episodes of the show premiered at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on September 18th, and the buzz was palpable worldwide. For those curious about its Netflix whereabouts, it will be available on the streamer from October 9th.

My Father, the BTK Killer (Skye Borgman, 2025)

The arrival arc looks rather intense and steeped in darkness, evident more so in the upcoming true-crime documentary, My Father, the BTK Killer, from Skye Borgman, who recently made a lot of noise in the streaming town with Unknown Number: The High School Catfish. The show revolves around the disturbing true story of notorious serial killer Dennis Radar, AKA the BTK (Blind, Torture, Kill) killer, told from the perspective of his daughter Kerri Rawson.

My Father, the BTK Killer, documents the extensive impact of his crimes on his family, community, and society, as Rawson recalls the memories from her childhood that have become a source of her lifelong trauma. The documentary is slated for a Netflix release on October 10th, so if you’re a true-crime nut, it’s time to upgrade your watchlist with this.

Swim to Me (Dominga Sotomayor, 2025)

Based on Alia Trabucco’s best-selling novel, Swim to Me comes along with a chilling, unique premise. Premiering at the 73rd San Sebastian International Film Festival in September, the film unfolds a gripping family drama, following the intensely dependent relationship established between a domestic worker, Estela, and the six-year-old she takes care of.

As they grow closer with time, they create a secret that leaves a tragic footprint in their widely different worlds. Swim to Me is also slated to be released on Netflix on October 10th. In case you were saving the date just for My Father, the BTK Killer, now you have another troubling piece of fiction to keep an eye out for as well.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (Simon Stone, 2025)

Lastly, the Netflix project that’s blazing a must-see trail of anticipation is Simon Stone’s psychological thriller, also scheduled to be released on October 10th, The Woman in Cabin 10. Starring Keira Knightley, this Netflix film serves as the adaptation of Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel, so make sure you save some room for this one-way descent into insanity.

The Woman in Cabin 10 follows a journalist on the maiden voyage of a luxury cruise ship for a cover story, who witnesses a passenger falling off overboard. But when she informs the fellow passengers and crew, no one believes her, making her question her own reality and the one that surrounds her.
