Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week
The streaming season reached a fever pitch this September, and Netflix has been clearly on steroids for it in the last two weeks.
In case you’re still reeling from the previous arrival arc, which came with high-profile releases like Black Rabbit and The Ba***ds of Bollywood, buckle up once more with the five ultimate Netflix releases to watch out for this week.
With just a few months left to wrap up 2025, the streamer is taking every minute into account. Although it tends to cut some slack every month-end with relatively fewer rows of arrivals and departures, it is on a mission to leave a benchmark of its own this time around.
In fact, Netflix has no plans to offer any streaming respite. Just like it kept the audience’s hands full in the previous one, the giant aims to continue similarly. However, what you need to do is keep up, and if you’re low on snacks after the binge marathons from the last week, it’s time to restock, because neither the clock nor the platform is slowing down for anyone.
Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week
Alice in Borderland (Shinsuke Sato, 2020–Present)
Hell broke loose when Netflix unveiled the main trailer last month with an intense preview of the deadly games that have Usagi in Borderland and Arisu tailing to save her in Alice in Borderland season three. But the real show is about to begin, with the episodes ready to peel back the curtain on the highly anticipated instalment of the sci-fi thriller series.
The survival drama has been one of the most-watched non-English TV shows on Netflix, boasting an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes. So, for those waiting on the games to kick-start once again with a countdown on life and death, Alice in Borderland is returning to Netflix on September 25th.
House of Guinness (Steven Knight, 2025)
Netflix has been a bit too busy preparing its fall roster for the year. However, fans can now rest easy as one of the long-awaited historical series, House of Guinness, awaits to be unleashed with a “coming soon” label. Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the series picks up the story of Europe’s one of the most enduring and prestigious dynasties, that of the Guinness family, right after Sir Benjamin Guinness’s demise.
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is bringing House of Guinness on September 25th. Hence, if you were thinking of saving the date for Alice in Borderland’s third season, keep some room for the dynasty drama that’s gaining speculation steam by the minute.
Wayward (Mae Martin and Ryan Scott, 2025)
Wayward has been busy making a name before its Netflix touchdown. Already glowing with an 89% Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics, this intense new thriller takes place in the “pitch-perfect” town of Tall Pines. While Mae Martin is traditionally credited for tickling the funny bones, Wayward is about to flip the script with a haunting story of the troubled teen industry.
Starring Martin and Toni Collette, the Netflix series follows police officer Alex after his move to Tall Pines, who unexpectedly connects with two troubled teens, determined and desperate to escape. When he digs deep into some rather unusual incidents, suspicion falls on the mysterious school leader, Evelyn, as the town teeters amid an intergenerational struggle. Again, for those who thought this was going to be just another Thursday, add Wayward to your calendar for a Netflix reveal this September 25th.
Ángela (Norberto López Amado, 2025)
While weekends on Netflix have always been interesting, midweeks with the streamer are clearly no less. By the time you finish what’s coming to Netflix this September, you will have to strap in for a buzzing Friday arrival: Ángela. The Spanish limited series tells the story of the titular character, confined in an abusive relationship with her husband.
But when Edu offers an escape, what seems like a road to new beginnings soon brings back the ghosts of her past, unravelling her life in ways she never expected. Scheduled to premiere on Netflix US on September 26th, Ángela is based on the British miniseries Angela Black.
Mantis (Lee Tae-sung, 2025)
Lastly, joining Ángela on September 26th is the South Korean action thriller that’s making waves on social channels, Mantis. Serving as Lee Tae-sung’s feature debut, the film is a spin-off set within the shared hired killer universe of 2023’s Kill Boksoon. The upcoming film promises to showcase a cutthroat world of assassins as Mantis returns home from a vacation to witness the scene in utmost chaos.
It focuses on Mantis, his ex-training partner and nemesis Jae-yi and an infamous retired killer, Dok-go, in a high-stakes competition to become the top-most assassin. Netflix already dropped a high-octane, intense thriller on September 11th to tease what Mantis is about to bring for fans. If you’re still out of the loop, don’t forget to check the sneak-peek below.
