Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week
Marines (Chelsea Yarnell, 2025)
Netflix is bringing a four-part docuseries, Marines, today, November 10th, co-produced by Amblin Documentaries and Lucky 8 TV, that will transport viewers inside the US military’s “force in readiness” in the Pacific. The Netflix documentary offers an insider’s look into the unit’s diligent training exercises alongside a glimpse of their personal moments.
Marines on Netflix focuses on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, capturing their close-knit bonds as they solidify their footing as the leaders of tomorrow, all while shouldering the responsibility of their duties away from their homes, patrolling foreign seas. It aims to provide a never-before-seen contemporary look into their rigorous training and real-life preparations, primarily providing unprecedented access into their praxis.
A Merry Little Ex-Mas (Steve Carr, 2025)
Netflix has officially slipped into the festive mood, and this week’s arrival arc is proof. While it’s dropping a slew of Christmas titles throughout the workweek, the one fans had set their sights pretty early on is a holiday rom-com from director Steve Carr, A Merry Little Ex-Mas. The Netflix movie revolves around a recent divorcee, Kate, portrayed by Alicia Silverstone, whose aspirations of a dreamy Christmas before selling her house unravel at the very last minute.
It so happens that her ex-husband brings an unforeseen surprise, probably no one expected: his new girlfriend. As we know it, it’s definitely no holiday break without a bit of drama, and A Merry Little Ex-Mas clearly has plenty. The rom-com lands on Netflix this November 12th, so don’t forget to tune into Netflix for some designated holiday mischief.
Last Samurai Standing (Michihito Fujii, 2025)
Netflix plans to spoil you for choice this week, and to ensure the same, it’s turning back time with the highly anticipated Last Samurai Standing. The forthcoming series takes viewers back to 1878 Japan, into the post-Samurai era, when the fallen samurai find themselves deep in the hot waters of poverty and pandemic. Already struggling to make ends meet amid the arrival of a new regime, having been stripped of their identity, status and no longer allowed to carry swords, they soon find their last chance at salvation.
They get an invitation to participate in a tournament, Kodoku, which comes with a lucrative cash prize of 100 billion yen. However, the only catch is that only one player survives this deadly game, but the eyes on the prize are one too many. Last Samurai Standing hits Netflix shelves on November 13th. Hence, be prepared when the clock resets.
The Beast in Me (Gabe Rotter, 2025)
A new week is nothing without a good thriller to watch out for. So, on this week’s roster, we have The Beast in Me to welcome. The forthcoming Netflix series from its original slate of production revolves around an acclaimed author, Aggie Wiggs, who has recoiled from her life of fame since the death of her young son, which left her devastated and unable to move on. Still hung up on the ghosts of her past, she now struggles to write and reclaim her former life.
But all that changes when a new neighbour, Nile Jarvis, moves into Wiggs’ house next door, a real-estate mogul who was once believed to have been involved in his wife’s disappearance as the prime suspect. Although terrified, she’s equally fascinated by Nile. However, the goose chase could end up really badly for Wiggs since “no one can bring out your inner monster like a bad neighbour.” The Beast in Me also drops on Netflix on November 13th. So, it looks like you’re about to have your hands full this Thursday.
Nouvelle Vague (Richard Linklater, 2025)
Lastly, the movie that you definitely can’t skip this week is Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, described as his “love letter” to the transformative spell of the French New Wave. The movie ideally reimagines the making of Jean Luc-Godard’s Breathless (1960), which solidified his reputation and put him on the map of global cinema.
The film dives deep into Godard’s daring vision of introducing a mix of fresh talents to document the creative dynamism that marked the venture. Nouvelle Vague further promises to take viewers back to the streets of 1959 Paris to honour Godard’s legacy in capturing the revolutionary magic of cinema back in the day. The movie was already screened in select theatres on October 31. Now, it’s slated to be released on Netflix US on November 14th.
