Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week

For those still cold with complaints about Netflix lacking in the quantity of quality content, we hope that you’re prepared for all that November has to offer.

Because, believe it or not, Netflix plans to move mountains in terms of entertainment this time around, giving you just enough titles to ensure you’re glued to the streaming screens day in and out. While the search for the new never really ends, Netflix already travelled above and beyond in 2025 to roll out content that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Some won with the glow-up of Emmys, while the others reeled in back-to-back record-breaking roulettes. Although the first volume of Stranger Things’ fifth and final season must have had twice the regular audience lurking in the streaming sphere, here are five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week to convince you even more.

So, make this Netflix watchlist a streaming Bible, as this will be your only trusted guide going forward, at least for this week.

Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week

In Waves and War (Jon Shenk and Bonni Cohen, 2025)

In Waves and War is a hard-hitting documentary that hit Netflix shelves today, November 3rd, following its Telluride premiere in 2024 and theatrical release in LA on October 3rd, followed by North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. The documentary revolves around Marcus and Amber Capone, the founders of Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions, as well as two retired Navy SEAL colleagues, Matthew Roberts and DJ Shipley.

In Waves and Wars on Netflix aims to capture the tumultuous journey of the Navy SEALS, who, despite their traumas, take on a mission to save each other with powerful psychedelics that ultimately becomes a vehicle for their healing. The film depicts the transformative impact of psychedelic-driven ibogaine therapy on warriors suffering from brain injury or psychological diagnoses like PTSD and severe depression.

Heweliusz (Jan Holoubek, 2025)

Grounded in extensive research, witness testimony, and court filings from Maritime Chamber Trials, Heweliusz is an upcoming limited series that recreates the sinking of the MS Jan Heweliusz. Despite over 30 years since the tragedy, it remains one of the most scarring events in Polish maritime history. The ferry reportedly sank in the storm-ridden Baltic Sea near the German island of Rügen in January 1993.

64 people were on board, out of whom only nine could survive. Deemed as one of the most controversial episodes in postwar Polish history, Netflix has now taken on the mission to go beyond mere reconstruction. Heweliusz on Netflix doesn’t just aim to capture the tragic night of the disaster, but also those families who fought for justice thereafter. The show is scheduled to be released on Netflix on November 5th. So, don’t forget to tune into what is believed to be one of the most ambitious projects from the streamer.

Death by Lightning (Matt Ross, 2025)

Ever since Netflix teased the arrival of Death by Lightning from the Emmy-winning executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and creator Mike Makowsky, we know that all eyes have been on the prize. And why wouldn’t they be, considering the Netflix series chronicles one of the most extraordinary episodes of American history?

For those still out of the loop, Death by Lightning is an upcoming limited series based on the controversial life and death of the reluctant 20th president of the United States, James Garfield, and his assassin, Charles Guiteau, who was also allegedly one of his biggest admirers. Yes, you heard that right. Despite the setting being 150 years in the past, the context remains incredibly relevant today. Yet, if you cannot pinpoint why, save some room for the answers when the show strikes Netflix on November 6th.

As You Stood By (Lee Jeong-rim, 2025)

Strap in for the most spine-chilling crime-thriller coming your way this week from the slate of Netflix’s South Korean productions, As You Stood By. Based on Hideo Okuda’s 2014 novel, Naomi and Kanako, the Netflix series follows two women trapped in a ruthless reality where the only rule of survival is killing, or else getting killed.

While it’s not easy for them to choose, when they do decide to kill, they soon find out their fates are intertwined in a way they couldn’t have ever imagined, complicating their decision and raising the psychological challenge. The first two episodes of As You Stood By premiered at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in September. In case that’s not enough to convince you, you’re welcome to check out the intense trailer below. But do so before it drops on Netflix on November 7th.

Frankenstein (Guillermo del Toro, 2025)

Incredibly inspired by Mary Shelley’s seminal 1818 novel, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is considered to be a dream-come-true project, which he has always deemed as his “Bible.” The upcoming film is far from a simple retelling and unlike any other adaptation viewers have seen before, because this time, Frankenstein literally looks in the eyes to ask: Who is the real monster?

The Oscar-winning director has taken the liberty of forgoing the framing of Frankenstein as a period piece, maintaining the sanctity of authenticity, given that Shelley imbued modernism in every aspect of the novel, set in 19th-century Europe. Hence, don’t forget to witness history in the making with del Toro’s version, which releases on Netflix this November 7th.
