Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week

Netflix’s chariot of content is currently on cloud nine, thanks to a weekly lineup that speaks for itself. Understandably, many might second-guess the roster, presuming the streamer may have slowed down by now; on second thought, it’s about time they are proven wrong.

The original slate of Netflix productions has barely taken a break since the onset of spring. So, although you might get sweaty running all day just to keep up with what’s new on streaming, once you adapt, there’s no excuse for holding back.

The spring arc has showcased a variety of content so far, from gritty true-crime stories and gripping mystery thrillers to intense action flicks and chaotic family dramas, which might make you question whether anything is left at all.

While it’s a universally acknowledged fact that the streaming giant is not exactly short of surprises, we get where your anxieties are coming from. Hence, let us squash your concerns with the five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week.

Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week

Unchosen (Philippa Langdale and Jim Loach, 2026)

Sex Education star Asa Butterfield is ready for his Netflix comeback this week with a high-octane psychological thriller, Unchosen. Prepare for a full-throttle kick start already! Premiering April 21st, the six-episode limited series promises to take viewers behind the closed doors of a fictional conservative religious sect, telling the story of Rosie, who lives in a reclusive Christian community with her husband Adam and their daughter.

Although a devoted wife and a dedicated mother, when Rosie’s marriage with Adam begins to unravel, her fateful encounter with escaped convict, the mysterious Sam, turns her life upside down. While he poses as her saviour, seemingly freeing her from the shackles of the religious cult, Sam’s checkered past makes one want to question whether Rosie has been misjudging the signs of danger all along.

Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill (Grace McNelly, 2026)

Up next on the lineup is the final episode of the critically acclaimed Untold anthology series, The Shoot at Hawthorne Hill, which revisits the 2019 shooting of dressage student Lauren Kanarek, allegedly at the hands of her trainer and former Olympic equestrian Michael Barisone. Scheduled to hit Netflix shelves on April 21st, the entry explores their escalating professional feud, marked by 911 calls, public accusations, and social media battles.

Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill also offers viewers a front-row seat to the heated 2022 trial where Barisone’s defence argued he was legally insane, citing extreme paranoia and severe mental health deterioration despite Kanarek’s allegations that he was violent and abusive. While Netflix is returning with Untold’s UK edition sooner than you think, in order to find out every nitpick of this particular controversial sports episode, don’t forget to save the date.

Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 (Eric Robles, 2026)

Life hasn’t been the same since Netflix pulled the curtains on Duffer Brothers’ hit sci-fi series, Stranger Things. But this week, all of that is going to change for good. Eric Robles is breathing life into a new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, which promises to take viewers back into the mysterious universe on April 23rd. It’s time you get ready to meet your fan-favourite characters with a twist you just won’t see coming!

Set in 1985, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 follows our beloved Hawkins heroes on an unforgettable journey, taking on new monsters as a paranormal unravelling terrorises their town. This is undoubtedly your return ticket to Hawkins. Having said that, the animated series distinctly aims to capture the magic of the universe in a way you have yet to experience.

Running Point (Elaine Ko, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, 2025-Present)

Also returning April 23rd is Netflix’s sports comedy, Running Point, starring Kate Hudson. Get your gears on because the second season promises to be bigger and better! Following her slam dunk success in season one, the follow-up season follows Isla Gordon on a mission to solidify her role as the Los Angeles Waves team leader. However, she persistently gets pushed back by the board and her brother, Cam, who turns her every minor error into leverage to reclaim control.

Isla spends most of her time in Running Point season two, navigating team scandals and managing high-stakes professional pressure, but little does she realise that her authority is under attack from someone she holds dear. With Cam actively working behind the scenes to portray her as an underling, believing it would favour his reclamation, tension is right at the centre of the forthcoming comedy instalment. Mark your calendars if you’re saving room for a hearty midweek laughter roll.

Apex (Baltasar Kormákur, 2026)

Coming to the final stop of the week, Netflix has Baltasar Kormákur’s Apex scheduled to drop on April 24th. So, buckle up for a high-octane end to the week! The upcoming survival thriller stars Charlize Theron as a grieving rock climber who turns to the Australian wilderness to seek solace on a solo adventure, hoping to overcome her personal demons and restore her sense of self.

But while there, she becomes the target of a cunning hunter who treats her as prey, turning her trip into a brutal, high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase. So far, Netflix users have been loving the streamer’s streak of survival thrillers. However, for those wondering what sets Apex apart, well, it takes the intensity of the genre to a different level, exploring the rawness of the threat humans pose to humanity simply on the pursuit of survival.
