If yes, then you’re all set. But if you’re putting together your festive watchlist only now, here are five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week.
Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week
Sicily Express (Ficarra e Picone, 2025)
If you still cannot get over Emily in Rome, grab your passports for yet another Italian trip with Sicily Express on Netflix. The limited series recently hit the shelves of Netflix US on December 22nd, just in time for Christmas, for a much-needed holiday spin on the story of two Sicilian nurses, Salvo and Valentino, who work in a Milan clinic, always commuting between Sicily and Milan on low-cost flights.
As their medical director, a Calabrian posing as a Milanese, continuously stands in the way of their homecoming attempts, all one can think of is a Christmas miracle that can make their holiday wish come true. Thankfully, a holiday miracle does happen, thanks to Valentino’s daughter’s wish that leads to their discovery of a magic dumpster that teleports them from Piazza del Duomo in Milan to their hometown in Sicily, and back again. But does the festive bliss last? That’s for you to find as Sicily Express is streaming now on Netflix.
Elway (Rodgers and Chris Weaver, 2025)
Based on the life and legacy of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway, Elway is a Netflix documentary that explores the multifaceted life of the Denver Broncos quarterback. The definitive new documentary landed on Netflix on December 22nd. However, it has been the talk of the sports town for quite some time now.
Elway tells the story of the celebrated athlete, starting from his early days being drafted to play baseball by the New York Yankees to his unforgettable moments in college football history. The documentary revisits his countless victories, including his two-time Super Bowl wins as a player and a third as an executive with the Denver Broncos.
Goodbye June (Kate Winslet, 2025)
While viewers worldwide are used to watching Kate Winslet on screens, with Goodbye June, the actor officially flips the script, adding a new byline to her resume as a director. That’s right, the Christmas entry from Netflix, which serves as Winslet’s directorial debut, released in select cinemas in the UK and the US early on, is officially landing on the streamer this Christmas Eve. And we sincerely hope you won’t miss out on it for the world.
For those unaware, Goodbye June is a Christmas family drama that Winslet directed from a screenplay written by her son, Joe Anders. The emotional saga revolves around four siblings who come together to care for their ailing mother, whose health takes a turn for the worse just in time for Christmas, leaving the family on its own to confront grief and love in a way that highlights the other side of holidays.
Stranger Things (Duffer Brothers, 2016-Present)
Stranger Things season five came with its first batch of episodes on November 26th and left the world craving for more. But the wait is officially coming to an end with the second volume scheduled to drop on Netflix on Christmas Day, 2025. The first volume came with its fair share of jaw-dropping revelations, from Vecna abducting the Hawkins kids to Will going into warrior mode.
While the second volume trailer was able to confirm that all our theories and presumptions about the Upside Down have been “dead wrong” so far, it’s time to find out why and how when the follow-up episodes land on Netflix this Thursday. So, don’t forget to mark your calendars before it’s too late!
Cover-Up (Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus, 2025)
Netflix will debut an enticing new documentary, Cover-Up, exploring the legacy and life of investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, on December 26th. The documentary already premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival and was also screened at Telluride and Toronto International Film Festivals.
Directed by Oscar-winning Laura Poitras and Emmy-winning Mark Obenhaus, Cover-Up is a political thriller of a documentary, chronicling Hersh’s half-century of reporting, based on his meticulous notes, primary documents, and archival footage. The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist has been known for exposing some of the most scathing events covered up by the US government, including the My Lai massacre during the Vietnam War and the torment the prisoners at Abu Ghraib went through.
