Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch (Guillaume Dousse, 2025)
The streaming era has been home to several outstanding video game adaptations. Thanks to Netflix, it’s time to add one more with Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, landing on the streamer on October 14th. The video game series that debuted originally in 2002 was a departure from the games of the era, which primarily focused on reckless action engagement. Splinter Cell did just the opposite by making use of the player’s astuteness, offering a room for imbuing the genius instead of heedlessly striking.
Now, Netflix is about to drop a video game adaptation for the fans who made Splinter Cell their video game bible. Speaking of the upcoming eight-episode series, Guillaume Dousse said, “I wanted to capture the solitary rituals of a secluded Sam, years after we last saw him, in a setting that appears frozen in time.” This time around, fans will witness Sam Fisher in a different landscape, as an old-timer enjoying his retirement in a snow-covered Poland. So, save the date, and don’t miss this chance.
The Diplomat (Deborah Cahn, 2023-Present)
As one of the most-watched political thrillers on Netflix, the drum rolls for The Diplomat’s third season make sense. With the political tension reaching a fever pitch in the second instalment, this fall, it’s not just the leaves that are changing colours, but the characters too. The third instalment picks up just where the second one left off, with Kate Wyler standing up to Vice President Grace Penn for hatching the terrorist plot.
But as the president is now dead, with some of that responsibility inadvertently falling on the shoulders of Kate’s husband, Hal, Penn is the new leader whom she has to suck up to while grappling with a newfound role she never wanted in the first place. For those unaware, The Diplomat is coming back to Netflix for the third time on October 16th.
She Walks in Darkness (Agustín Díaz Yanes, 2025)
The Netflix appetite for thrillers is never-ending, but we’re not complaining. Neither is the streamer. In fact, it’s bringing a political thriller film to keep you on your toes this week from the Spanish slate of entertainment, She Walks in Darkness. Directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes, starring Susanna Abaitua, the upcoming Spanish movie on Netflix is inspired by the clandestine operation against the ETA, considered a game-changing mission in Spain’s stance against terrorism.
Set in the 1990s and 2000s, She Walks in Darkness follows a Civil Guard officer, Amaia, and her time within the ETA in an attempt to locate the weapons cache spread all over Southern France. The film premiered at the 73rd San Sebastian International Film Festival last month on the 24th, which was followed by a theatrical release in Spain on October 3rd. She Walks in Darkness is now scheduled to hit the Netflix shelves on October 17th. Make sure to mark your calendars.
The Perfect Neighbour (Geeta Gandbhir, 2025)
Netflix is inviting the chills this Halloween in more ways than one. Emmy-winning Geeta Gandbhir is about to bring a documentary film, The Perfect Neighbour, this week, that will leave you at a loss for words, sending shudders down your spines. Slated to be released on October 17th, following its release in select theatres on October 10th, the true-crime documentary revolves around a close-knit community subjected to unusual pestering and badgering by a neighbour.
But as the harassments pile up, they escalate into a bloody massacre, leading to Ajike Owens’ tragic death in 2023. The Perfect Neighbour uses bodycam footage to tell the story of the fatal crime that sent the entire community on a high alert. In case you were oblivious to the case, check out the intense trailer Netflix dropped to get a sense of what’s coming your way.
The Twits (Phil Johnston, 2025)
While Netflix has reserved more chills than you probably can handle this week, with The Twits, those feels can be counterbalanced. The forthcoming animated musical comedy is loosely based on Roald Dahl’s 1980 children’s novel, star-studded with names like Natalie Portman, Emilia Clarke, Maitreye Ramakrishnan, Johnny Vegas, and Margo Martindale, among others.
The Twits revolve around the rudest Mr and Mrs Twit, who run the most dangerous amusement park in the entire world, Twitlandia. But when the power-hungry couple grows almost blinded by their status in the town, two courageous kids, Beesha and Bubsy, along with the magical family Muggle-Wumps, step in to act as saviours. The animated film is scheduled to be released on October 17th as well. So, save some room for some laughter, as it’s the perfect pick for those family movie nights.
