Five Netflix movies we simply cannot wait for

Netflix loves a good tease. So do we. But sometimes that’s just not enough. So, if you’re tired of holding your breath and your horses about what more to add to your watchlist, check out these five Netflix movies we simply cannot wait for.

Whenever the floodgates of movies open for Netflix, the streamer struggles to close them. Although many flicks have come and gone in 2025, Netflix has reserved a jar of golden caviar for the last few months, ensuring viewers have the perfect cinematic feast to end the year with.

The headlines are buzzing. The trailers are minting millions of views. Fan theories are clamouring for attention. Yet, every time you check the release dates, it’s just a gory reminder that it’s still not time.

But just because they are in the pipeline, that doesn’t mean we stop our anticipation. For those who think Netflix’s done and dusted for the year, you’re gravely mistaken. It’s only getting started.

Five Netflix movies we need to keep an eye out for

Steve (Tim Mielants, 2025)

Cillian Murphy has slipped into many skins in his Hollywood tenure. They brought widespread acclaim, worldwide honour, and, of course, his much-deserved Oscar. So, when Netflix teased fans with a Murphy movie in the making, hell was sure to break loose. And it did, thanks to Steve. The upcoming Netflix movie reimagines Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller Shy. The film follows head master Steve and his fight to avert the imminent shutdown of a last-chance reform school.

Sharing the spotlight with Steve is Shy, a disturbed teenager, who each grapple with their inner demons. The film had a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5thand promises to be a poignant watch. As for the ones waiting for Steve’s Netflix release, it’s October 3rd. Save the date.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (Simon Stone, 2025)

Netflix is capitalising on the frenzy surrounding psychological thrillers with a Kiera Knightley starrer, The Woman in Cabin 10. The Netflix adaptation of Ruth Ware’s mystery novel follows a journalist on an assignment to cover a palatial yacht’s first sail. But things take a major U-turn when she sees a woman plummet to her death. Yet, that’s not all. She cannot convince anyone of what she saw because no one, not a single entity, believes in her.

Netflix already dropped the anchor deep into the enigmatic waters with a trailer so gripping that it had viewers flipping with its brooding tone. But for the ship to draw close and the mystery to finally unravel, they will have to wait until October 10th. So, don’t stop the swim just yet.

A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE (Kathryn Bigelow, 2025)

Speaking of thrillers, Netflix is also dipping its toes deep into the political landscape with A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE. Starring A-listers like Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Gabriel Lasso, this Netflix movie promises to keep your adrenaline at an all-time high. What simply starts as just another day spirals into a tense, palpitating race against time when the US government pulls their hair, figuring out how to respond to an unattributed missile launched in their motherland.

The teaser glimpses of A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE were enough to send viewers to the edge of their seats. Hence, it’s understandable if they can no longer hold their lattes. The political thriller already had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. Before landing on Netflix on October 24th, it will be released in select UK theatres on October 3rd, and globally on October 10th.

Frankenstein (Guillermo del Toro, 2025)

If you think it’s just really us eyeing Frankenstein’s release with bated breath, you’re wrong. More than everyone else, it’s probably the man behind the genius, Guillermo del Toro. The gothic sci-fi horror film is essentially a re-imagination of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, which the director describes as his “Bible” from childhood. With Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac joining forces to make this dream come true for del Toro, Frankenstein already gave the chills with its teaser trailer.

Having already earned a 13-minute ovation at the Venice International Film Festival on August 30th, it’s now slated to release in select theatres on October 17th. But Frankenstein is not coming to Netflix before November 7th, so all you need to do is hold on a little longer before a piece of your childhood comes alive.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Rian Johnson, 2025)

We know you’ve sharpened your knives for Benoit Blanc’s next outing in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. And that’s exactly what you should. With Daniel Craig slipping into the detective shoes once again and Rian Johnson pledging to go back to the literary lineage of whodunits, it’s always safe to strap in beforehand. This time, Blanc is readying himself for a case within a religious setting, exploring the themes of belief, faith, morality, and “fallible humanity.”

While Johnson may have gone a bit contemporary with Glass Onion, Wake Up Dead Man turns back time. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6th. Before its touchdown on Netflix on December 12th, you can experience the mystery first-hand in theatres starting November 26th.
