Five characters on Netflix who are too cool for school

The world of showbiz is a cosmos of its own. And Netflix? Akin to the best next-door neighbour. Whenever you open the door and step into this neighbourhood, like every community, you’ll find all kinds of people. Some bring the warmth of the sun, while a select few make the climate frosty with just one stare.

Many turn up with an emotional burden too all-consuming. And others? They speak in the language of happy-go-lucky. Then comes a select few, who win you over not just with their characteristics of excellence but with confidence and charisma that no school can teach you through and through.

It’s not just in the way they look. It’s in the way they walk, talk, show up, and carry themselves. Several characters carry chaos on their coattails. But these are just prodigies of nature – unconventional, edgy, rebellious, and surreally exceptional.

Even without a PhD, they’re worthy of respect, especially in academic and intellectual circumstances. So, how about we turn the book over to the five characters on Netflix who are simply too cool for school?

Five characters on Netflix who are too cool for school

Maeve Wiley from Sex Education

Some characters excel with bookish knowledge. Then some characters have natural genius. Maeve Wiley embodies a trait that initially feels unapproachable. While she mostly likes to keep to herself, she’s inherently intelligent and at times, a bit too tough. She’s not only an academic champion, but also a severely street-smart individual who chips in with Otis Milburn to run his sex therapy business to make money off of it.

Maeve doesn’t come from a well-to-do household. In fact, she goes above and beyond to keep it afloat while her mother constantly succumbs to substance abuse. She even gets kicked out of Moordale Secondary in Sex Education. However, her literary skills are beyond artificial setbacks. She may doubt herself, but there’s nothing that can hold her back. Not even the highly learned and privileged Wallace University students.

Enola Holmes from the Enola Holmes franchise

If Enola Holmes taught us anything, it’s not to underestimate the pedigree of Holmes when it comes to brilliance. Her knowledge and sleuthing abilities are a combination that stems from natural skills and bookish knowledge. Yet, it’s her intuitive skills that take the cake. From solving mysteries that seasoned detectives sweat for to navigating womanhood against the Victorian norms, Enola is a powerhouse of a woman.

Whether it’s unbreakable codes or cyphers, disguise or observation, literature or science, Holmes is an all-rounder. Definitely too cool for school.

Wednesday Addams from Wednesday

Creepy or not, there’s something weirdly attractive about the way Wednesday Addams does her thing. Sure, she has been an agent of chaos in whichever school she’s stepped into. But her brain? That’s literally the art of work. She’s already saved the sinking boat of Nevermore in Wednesday‘s season one. And even now, she’s going strong with her sleuthing spirits, even with the psychic failures.

Wednesday also has a soft corner for literature, which often spills out naturally. And the best part? She’s totally old-school with her writing – typewriter and all that. Honestly, she never really needed a school to show off her cool. She was just born with it.

Dustin Henderson from Stranger Things

Another Netflix character who can very well leave behind school and still feel no shortcomings in his abilities is Dustin Henderson. Whether in terms of problem-solving skills or scientific discoveries, he’s always a step ahead of everyone else in the tight-knit squad. Portrayed as a top-tier ‘80s nerd in Stranger Things, his passion and cerebral knack are very much inclined to science, which often ends up saving the day.

He thinks on his toes, solves Russian codes with Suzie, his equally nerdy girlfriend, and leads the showdown in season four. While Dustin’s technical acumen is far beyond his age, he’s also incredibly loyal – a trait that’s inherent, not learned.

Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty

The “too cool for school” adage was made for Rick Sanchez. The Rick and Morty character has been a staple in popular culture for embodying the spirit of nonconformity. Some may find him nihilistic, especially in terms of his worldview. However, his intelligence is not on par with that of ordinary people. His IQ is off the charts and unparalleled.

His brilliance cannot be measured. His scientific experiments are too fascinating and beyond the realms of worldly reality, pervading alternate dimensions and timelines. Rick’s confidence is almost infectious, and his scientific abilities are up by several notches. Most importantly, he’s not just cool for school; he’s too cool for right about everything.
