Five best series to watch on Netflix this weekend
Nobody Wants This (Season 3) (2024-)
Finally, finally, the wait is over for Netflix’s much-loved romance, and blimey, Joanne and Noah aren’t spending another season of Nobody Wants This wondering whether they fancy each other, because season three has them moving in together and finding out what happens when things get very real even though it’s in a show. Watch them sharing a home, everyday routines and all those tiny habits that can drive anyone up the wall. Kristen Bell’s Joanne is still finding her feet in Noah’s Jewish world, while Adam Brody’s rabbi wants to build a life with her without losing the spark that brought them together.
Mind you, the rest of the gang are coming back with Sasha and Esther back in the dating game, Morgan chasing bigger career opportunities, and that unspoken thing between Sasha and Morgan still hanging about. Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons return, Sarah Silverman joins as a rabbi teaching Joanne’s conversion class, and creator Erin Foster even makes a cameo, so this season has plenty of laughs but even more chaos.
The New Stanford Prison Experiment (Season 1) (2026)
Netflix has got a pretty bonkers new reality show on the way, and we’re not sure who in their right mind would sign up for this. They’ve taken the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment and turned it into reality TV, with 30 volunteers spending two weeks in an actual prison. Half of them get to play guards while the others are stuck playing prisoners, and it’s all down to luck who ends up where.
Basically, they want to find out how people behave when they’re given a bit of power, or when it’s taken away from them. The original experiment back in 1971 was meant to run for longer, but they had to knock it on the head after just six days because things went south. Netflix reckons it’s got better safeguards in place this time, with Harvard behavioural scientist Alison Wood Brooks, journalist Trymaine Lee and former prison official Michael Cantrell keeping an eye on things and giving their take.
The Mothers of Penguins (Season 2) (2024-)
The second season of this Polish drama is back, and there is a lot going on beyond an MMA fighter trying to juggle motherhood, because Kama, Ula, Tatiana and Jerzy have now decided to build a school themselves after struggling to find somewhere that understands their children’s needs. They call it Happiness Pole, a place where the kids can feel safe and accepted, but before long they are drowning in paperwork, money problems and, most important of all, emotional exhaustion, because, as the saying goes, nothing worth having comes easy.
Masza Wągrocka returns as Kama, alongside Barbara Wypych, Magdalena Różczka and Tomasz Tyndyk, and the good thing is, children are growing up too, dealing with changing friendships and all the teenage drama.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (Season 1) (2026)
Night City is back, and congratulations, the place still looks dangerous enough; only Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 isn’t just bringing the old gang back for another round. Instead, we’ve got a fresh ten-episode story following Weak and a once-famous mercenary now struggling to live without his cybernetic upgrades. We also have D, a skilled netrunner from Snake Nation who’s hunting the person responsible for wiping out his clan.
There’s also Roman, a young film obsessive desperate to capture real stories, and Talia, a tough girl shaped by the violent Maelstrom gang, so revenge and survival are all there for you to get excited.
Money Trap: The Karun Treasure (Season 1) (2026)
Do you know someone who swears they are done with dodgy business, only to get stuck right back into it the minute there’s a bit of cash involved? Well, that’s Asım Noyan for you. Played by Yılmaz Erdoğan in Money Trap: The Karun Treasure, he is a con man who’s meant to have left his old tricks behind. But then he gets his hands on a mysterious map, and he is back in business. Before you know it, he’s got his old friends back together, and they’re off chasing a fortune.
The only problem is some pretty bad people characters are after the same treasure, and there are international treasure hunters involved too. So now everyone’s legging it around Istanbul, trying to get there first. It’s an eight-part Turkish crime comedy directed by Şenol Sönmez, with Erdoğan also writing the script.
