The first trailer for the action-thriller The Mother, starring Jennifer Lopez, has now been released by Netflix. The film is directed by Niki Caro, who previously worked on Mulan, and Lopez plays an assassin who is determined to protect her daughter, who she was made to give away at birth.
“A deadly female assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before while on the run from dangerous men,” reads a synopsis of the film. Lopez’s character says in the new trailer, “I’m a killer. And I’m also a mother,” giving us a clue as to her priorities.
The teaser video begins with a call back to Lopez’s character giving birth to her daughter before an FBI agent tells her she must give her newborn child away to protect her from two of her enemies. Flashing forward, Lopez is summoned to action when her daughter is kidnapped.
The Mother also stars Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael Garcia Bernal and will arrive on Netflix on May 12th. It was adapted from a story written by Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green with a script from Green, Straight Outta Compton’s Andrea Berloff and Top Gun: Maverick’s Peter Craig.
