First trailer released for Netflix’s ‘Onimusha’ anime

The first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Onimusha anime has now been released. The show will begin streaming on the service on November 2nd, later this year and will focus on the Onimusha: Blade Warriors character Musashi Miyamoto.

The series has been directed by Takashi Miike, the Japanese filmmaker who is known for his violent contributions to cinema. His previous works have included AuditionIchi the KillerBlade of the Immortal and Gozu

The visual inspiration for Musashi looks to be Toshiro Mifune, the Japanese actor who was known for his collaborations with the Japanese cinema director Akira Kurosawa, including his films Rashomon and Seven Samurai.

The Netflix description of the series reads, “This is the beginning of an intense series full of realistic action in which Musashi’s blade slices through evil as he traverses a land plagued by poverty.”

The streaming service announced the adaptation last year with a description that previously read, “The beginning of the Edo period, Musashi is no longer a young man. He departs with the legendary Oni Gauntlet to defeat the Genma.

“3D CGI characters and hand-drawn backgrounds create phenomenal visuals,” that original description continued. “Onimusha is given a new life using modern-day animation technology.”
