Watch the first trailer for the Netflix ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ reality show

The first trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge has now been released, and it will be released on Netflix on November 22nd later this year. It’s based on the widely popular South Korean drama Squid Game, which released back in 2021.

The reality show will see contestants face off against one another to try and win $4.56million in a number of challenges inspired by the original series. However, it will, of course, lack the fatal consequence of the drama.

The show’s logline reads, “Though the reality version of Squid Game isn’t a matter of life or death, there’s still a lot on the line. 456 players will compete to win $4.56 million, the largest cash prize in reality television history.”

It continues, “Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies and timely betrayals to follow.”

Brandon Riegg, Netflix Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series, had stated in May, “Squid Game took the world by storm with director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment.”

Meanwhile, The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, also noted, “I know that there are some concerns of taking that message and creating it into a reality show with a cash prize. I would say that reproductions of such efforts are going to bring new meaning to the [entertainment] industry, and I hope that this is going to be a great new direction for the industry overall.”
