Netflix unveils first-look images for 'The Last Kingdom' movie, 'Seven Kings Must Die'

Netflix has shared first-look photographs of Seven Kings Must Die, the upcoming The Last Kingdom movie. The feature-length period piece is set after the death of King Richard and follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg – Alexander Dreymon – as he attempts to forge a united England. Seven Kings is set to land on Netflix on April 14th.

Speaking to Variety about the upcoming movie, Dreymon said: “It has been such an honour to be part of telling this story for all these years. As an actor, I have been so challenged and gratified by the privilege of playing Uhtred.”

The actor continued. “Hanging up Uhtred’s sword after filming Seven Kings felt, ironically, heavy – even though I know that our tale has reached its conclusion. As an EP [executive producer] on the show, I could not be more proud of the hundreds of people who spent thousands of hours to make the best product possible.”

Addressing fans of The Last Kingdom directly, Dreymon continued: “As for our loyal fans… what can I say? You are the reason we’ve reached this point and got to bring our saga to the end. This, as it always has been, is for you.”

The Last Kingdom has certainly come a long way since it first aired on BBC Two back in 2015 (having already aired on BBC America). Netflix co-produced the second season, and the streaming service took over for series three to five. The TV series finished last year, but those involved thought it deserved a feature film before coming to an end.

You can stream The Last Kingdom on Netflix now. That should keep you occupied until the film arrives. Keep your eyes peeled for Seven Kings Must Die on April 14th.
