First look at the last season 'Riverdale' has been shared

A look into the final season of CW’s Riverdale has just been released. The network confirmed that the seventh season will be the last and will air next year. Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first look into the teen drama’s next season, with the cast appearing in vintage dresses.

On Instagram, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted a video of the show’s set, writing: “In honour of [Entertainment Weekly] FIRST look at our LAST season of Riverdale, set in the 1950s, here’s a sneak peek at our beautiful premier episode, coming soon!! We’re making something truly special this year”.

Riverdale first aired in 2017 and received immense acclaim, with audiences enjoying the show’s blend of mystery, drama and romance. However, TheWrap has shared that the show’s ratings have fallen significantly in recent years, with the premiere of season six dropping 45 per cent from the previous one. This final season will be the last time audiences see KJ Apa in the role of Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones in the TV adaptation of the Archie Comics.

Speaking to E! News about the show’s finale, star Reinhard shared her appreciation for Aguirre-Sacasa’s show: “I’m so grateful to be where I’m today. “I’m thankful for Riverdale, for my fans, for my dear Betty, and for the family I’ve made through this experience.” Reinhart won the 2017 Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakout TV Star for her role as girl-next-door Cooper

“I’m trying to go into it with the attitude of like, ‘This is it,'” she also shared with E! News, “so I’m gonna embrace it and enjoy every minute.”

Sprouse also told GQ Hype that he and the cast have been ready to “wrap it up with a bow.” The actor added: “I’m not a creative force behind [Riverdale]. I actually have no creative control. We show up, receive the scripts often the day of, and we’re asked to shoot.”

All six seasons of Riverdale are available to stream on Netflix.
