First look at Netflix's 'Matilda' starring Emma Thompson

The Tony and Oliver Award-winning musical, Matilda, is getting a live-action big-screen adaptation that will stream on Netflix, and some of the photos from the sets have been revealed.

The photos provide an insight into the cast and the crew of the film. Lashana Lynch, known for her roles in Captain Marvel and No Time to Die, will be playing the wonderful Miss Honey, who empathises with Matilda and befriends her. Miss Honey also harbours various secrets about the disagreeable Trunchbull. She can be seen riding a bike in a lovely sundress and a grey coat.

The film will be using songs from the original musical that Tim Minchin has written and will undoubtedly provide a delightful viewing.

There have been pictures of Aljaz Skorjanec from Strictly Come Dancing in a possible cameo. This is also his film debut, and he can be seen in a red convertible, clad in a swanky blue suit. It almost seems like he has procured the car from Danny DeVito, who played Harry Wormwood in the 1996 film.

Curious about who gets to play Matilda? Following Mara Wilson’s footsteps is the newcomer Alisha Weir who will most likely give a stellar performance as the beloved character.

The cast also features Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull. Thompson was recently seen in Disney’s Cruella as the haughty and vicious Baroness.

Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough will star as matilda’s parents while comedian Sindhu vee will be seen as Mrs Phelps, the librarian.

The film will be released in December 2022, and Netflix will be streaming it for people to watch at home. In the United Kingdom, however, the film will be available for theatre release over the holidays.
