First look and release date revealed for 'The Beautiful Game' starring Bill Nighy

The upcoming Netflix sports drama The Beautiful Game is set for global release on March 29th.

Based on the Homeless World Cup, the film will star Oscar nominee Bill Nighy and BAFTA winner Micheal Ward.

Nighy plays Mal, the manager of England’s homeless football team, who takes his players to Rome hoping to win the Homeless World Cup. Mal decided to bring in Ward’s Vinny, a brilliant striker who needs to fight his own demons to give the team a chance.

Inspired by the real organisation that was formed in 2001 to tackle homelessness through social sports, the film promises to be a tearjerker.

Made with the support of the Homeless World Cup, The Beautiful Game has released first-look images of Nighy and the rest of the cast, which includes

President and founder of the Homeless World Cup Foundation, Mel Young, said the organisation was “incredibly excited” to be the focus of the film. “We have proved just how powerful football can be when it is applied to a social problem, and we will keep striving to do more,” she said.

“We hope that the work we do being told in The Beautiful Game inspires more people to join in and support future Homeless World Cups, and together, we can all aim to end homelessness forever.”

Production on the film began back in 2021, with many former players in the actual tournament included in the filming across Rome and London.
