Finn Wolfhard teases 'Stranger Things' season 4 release date

It was July 9th, 2019, when Stranger Things left us lingering in emotional turmoil as the fate of the much-beloved Jim Hopper remained perilously uncertain. Despite teaser trailers already in circulation, it would seem we have some way to go before we edge closer to the relief of a resolution.

Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the series, hinted that season four might not be imminent via the fan answering service Fanmio.

Owing to the ongoing delays enforced by COVID-19 restrictions the latest instalment of the sci-fi show has been set back. This prompted one fan to ask about its forthcoming release on Fanmio, to which Wolfhard replied: “Season four should be out some point next year, but it has been really fun.”

With filming set to wrap on the latest season in the very near future, it is unlikely that we will have to wait too long once the calendar ticks over to 2022 for it to make an appearance on Netflix, particularly considering trailers have already been distributed.

Wolfhard’s answer was given on the spur of the moment so it is possible that it was pure speculation on his part, but with post-production in film and TV also being disrupted by the pandemic, his comments were probably on the money.

After a year where filming has been beleaguered for obvious reasons, Netflix will hope to cram in short-form series and films that are lighter work in the edit suite to bolster content for this year. Thereafter they are likely to hope for a big hit, like the universally cherished Stranger Things to get their 2022 off with a bang.
