Fans are furious at Netflix for cancelling 'Warrior Nun'

Netflix has taken the decision to cancel yet another Young Adult fantasy series. Following on the back of canning Fate: The Winx SagaFirst Kill and The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself, the streaming giant has now chosen to axe Warrior Nun, despite it having excellent ratings and scores upon scores of fans.

Alba Baptista (who plays the main character Ava Silva) took to Twitter to express her gratitude for being involved in the show. She said, “Working on Warrior Nun was a very special chapter of my life. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving everything they had. Thank you to the fans that loved and supported us. I see you, and I love you. It was all for you. I’m forever grateful.”

Warrior Nun’s showrunner Simon Barry also took to the social media platform to give his thanks to the fans. “I’ve just found out that Netflix will not be renewing Warrior Nun — my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this.”

However, a number of high-profile fans of the show – based on Ben Dunn’s comic books about a girl discovering her supernatural powers and joining an ancient covenant of warrior nuns to battle demons – have not been so kind to Netflix’s choice to cancel it.

The actor Aleks Paunovich said, “This is the shit that baffles me about this industry. Shows that don’t have this fan base or creativity somehow gets three, four seasons. I wish a network out there will see the product you created and bring it back.” Alison Wright of The Americans agreed with Paunovich and wrote, “Bananas! It was a massive success!!” However, despite the uproar, it is unlikely that Warrior Nun will return anytime soon.
