Ex-Nasa engineer Mark Rober is ready for a Netflix touchdown
It’s raining cats and content on Netflix. And if you’re still out of the loop, take the trend train right away. Netflix is joining forces with former Nasa engineer Mark Rober, now a full-time content creator, inventor, teacher, and philanthropist, to bring a new kids and family competition show in 2026.
Rober’s production company, CrunchLabs, is the studio behind the series in collaboration with Jimmy Kimmel, the former Oscar host’s Kimmelot. The social media star has already appeared quite a few times on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The competition series remains untitled for now.
Rober and CrunchLabs Chief Content Officer, Scott Lewers, serve as executive producers alongside Kimmel and Kimmelot’s President, Scott Lonker. But that’s far from all that Rober is bringing to Netflix.
Besides the competition series, Rober is also slated to bring educational content with insightful and visionary experiments later in 2025. “I love turning learning into a game, basically hiding the vegetables in the dessert, and now it’s a full-on competition game show!” said Rober to Netflix. Rober intends to make learning a fun process where the intake of knowledge is natural.
He already has a total following of 76million across several social media channels, including YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, among others. Having worked at Nasa for nine years, Rober’s first experiment that sparked a buzz was when he designed a Halloween costume hatched from two iPads, resembling a black hole near the torso region.
He is also credited with creating the first-ever Jell-O pool, hitting the unassailable baseball, and founding CrunchLabs. Rober’s competition series will be part of Netflix’s roster of Kids and Family programming. “Mark Rober’s unique approach to STEM learning inspires all ages – his storytelling is infectious. When my son and daughter spot a new Build Box at our doorstep, we know that an amazing adventure awaits!” adds John Derderian, Vice President Series, Animation, Kids and Family.
Previously, Netflix already fanned the flames of a Kevin Hart-hosted comedy competition series for 2026. And now fans have to buckle up for twice the competitive fun with Rober coming to Netflix.
