Peaky Blinders is coming back, and it’s time you all buckle up for what’s to come in the forthcoming Netflix movie. With Cillian Murphy all set to reprise his most iconic role as Birmingham gangster Thomas Shelby, the anticipation has already hit the roof.

Filming has wrapped for the Peaky Blinders movie, which was announced a year ago. So, it’s safe to say the countdown has officially begun for Tommy’s comeback.

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy told Tudum previously while on set with Steven Knight. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This one is for the fans.”

What is the Peaky Blinders movie all about?

The Peaky Blinders movie will serve as the continuation of the award-winning gangster story, which ran for six seasons. Set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, the original series captured the seesaw journey of the Shelby family amid the radical shifts of the social, economic, and political world.

So, speaking of his new venture, Knight said, “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.” In addition to Knight and Murphy’s comeback, Harper, who directed episodes from the first season in 2013, has also returned to direct the movie from a script by Knight.

“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over ten years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix,” Harper said.

The last time viewers caught a glimpse of Thomas Shelby, it was in the season six finale when he rode off on a white horse, hoping to start anew. While the plot details remain mostly shrouded in a mystery, fans can expect a bit of a bang, according to Knight’s tight-lipped teasers. “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war,” he said.

Who’s in the cast?

Besides the Oscar-winner, Murphy, the Peaky Blinders movie will feature Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan. The role details are yet to be unveiled.
